Grandma's Camry, NOT

The Zip

Following the Sprint Cup Series since 1980 (Davey Allison fan); sitting back today watching Vegas qualifying. About 12 years ago I rented a Camry on a business trip and I thought it was a pretty nice balanced car. Well fast forward today, Camry finished 4 of the top 5 in Daytona and will probably win the manufacturer's series this year in NASCAR. This car is surely not your grandma's Camry.

What's NASCRAP? Seriously I haven't watched a full race in over 3 years now, and I don't plan to again. That sport has become a joke.

Well, It's not a Camry at all. Just like every other car in NASCAR!

Couldn't agree more.

Before a manufacturer can put a car on the NASCAR circuit, they have to sell a minimum of factory units. So naturally take away some of the obvious stuff like the 1000 HP engine, roll bar, higher rear spoiler, and lowered aerodynamics, you basically have the same car as the one at the dealership.

Then there's that minor detail of the Camry being front wheel drive. Not basically the same car at all.

I thought some obvious stuff would be enough, but you really didn't expect me to name all the differences did you?

Ok, name one part you can take off a car and the dealer and install on the nascar

No. Nothing is the same, besides the name. It is in NO WAY a homologation. Thats what a 911 GT3 is.

A race team goes to the manufacturer and beefs-up a basic unit, it's not the concept or realistic to believe a basic part off a car at the dealership can withstand the forces of 500 miles, at 200 mph, in 3 hours.

Lol at all of this they are in no way the same car as on the streets

You are really drinking the kool-aid. In the future, it's a good idea to research something before you continually repeat bull crap information. I'm amazed you have watched a race and have seen the cars and believe that. Do you close your eyes every time there is a crash or behind the scenes or in-garage pre-race shot of the guys getting the cars ready?

Have you ever seen an actual NASCAR up close? Engine, suspension, exhaust system, nothing the same as the Camry that leaves the factory.
