Grandma's Camry, NOT

You are really drinking the kool-aid. In the future, it's a good idea to research something before you continually repeat bull crap information. I'm amazed you have watched a race and have seen the cars and believe that. Do you close your eyes every time there is a crash or behind the scenes or in-garage pre-race shot of the guys getting the cars ready?

Here are the words from the links you provided:

"Eventually, the racecars in what became NASCAR’s Grand National Series (today’s Sprint Cup Series) evolved into factory cars that were modified and prepped just for racing". No Koolaid but nice links, kind of what I was saying.

Engine, suspension, exhaust system, nothing the same as the Camry that leaves the factory.

I agree, but those items modified like the above statement would work fine. It's a good idea to research something before you continually repeat bull crap information.

You do realize that they stopped calling it the Grand National series back in the early 70's right? The name has changed many times since then. Neither the top NASCAR series or the cars are anything like they used to be. When NASCAR first started they used to drive their cars to the track, race them and then drive them home. To say they resemble factory cars now is just ridiculous.

With the new generation stock cars that they have gone to the manufacturer supplies the race teams with some of the body panels. That's it. They are in no way similar to the street version besides the shape, and some of the body lines. NASCAR isn't road racing where they take the actual car and modify it. In NASCAR they build the whole car, and slap the panels on that the manufacturer gives them.

You quoted the statement on the 70's. You didn't read the whole article. Your first post doesn't talk about cars in the 70's. This is getting hilarious.

Well, its actually a low tech engine. Up until 2 years ago they mandated carburetors. Nascrap keeps the rules dumbed down on the engines so that they can inspect them for cheating.

The only thing "stock" on those cars is the name. The manufacturers provide the bumper covers, but they are not stock pieces. To make this simple.....the days of "stock" in Nascar are LONG gone.

It just kinda looks like a Camry and Toyota throws money at it, beyond that the similarities pretty much end.

The name "Camry" is the only similarity to a car you can buy off the lot. There are no "modified" parts from production cars on them. They are all specifically designed and made parts for the race car, from the frame, body, engine, and even the bolts.

There is nothing the race car shares with the production car. Race car uses a tube frame, V8 engine, rear drive and basically has no interior. The production vehicle is a unibody, front drive sedan with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine and it has a full interior. Stop being foolish

nascar camry. hahahaha.

we all know the last street nascar from japan was the ten geared 87 subaru wagon. :)

Is this thread actually happening right now, I'm refusing to believe this is real life

It is not real life, it is the Internet.

At least this generation of Camary is easier on the eyes and not as ugly as previous generations. I'll give Crapota that.. Finally made the car decent looking.

Are the engines in those vehicles at least made/designed by GM/Ford/Dodge/Crapota?

They're made by 3rd parties I think. Even if they are made by the brand, they share nothing with road going engines at all. The name stock car racing is a joke or at best just a holdover from a time when they were truly based on something your or I could buy.
