I just bought a 2013 5.3 engine from a Tahoe to install in my 2007 Silverado. My question is will this work, they both look alike only difference i saw was a plug for the cam (maybe)

the new engine has 6 wires the old one has only 3

VIN # 1GNSCAE04DR338072 on the newer engine, don't know if this will help in answering my question Thanks .

First of all even if the body style is the same, you will still run into issues with variable valve timing. If they are not the same, requires a lot of work. So much so that it isnt worth doing for the little gain

Which engine dit you have, LM7, L59, L33?

Which 2013 engine did you buy LY5, LMG, LC9?

This really is a question you should ask before dropping money on an engine. There are many differences between the gen3 & gen4 V8's that it costs a ton of money to swap over. AFM, VVT, Flex Fuel, you need to know what you had and what you just bought.

Hope you were not expecting a plug n play job going from generation to generation, that's not going to happen and you may be looking at spending more money than you want to. Should have just bought a direct replacement crate engine, may have been cheaper overall.

Thanks for your replies, And I'm not sure which engine I have in my truck but here is my vin# 2GCEC130071693956, tried to check online which engine it was but couldn't find a true answer other that its a 5.3L Gas/E85 flex fuel w/active management.

and not sure yet if i can return the one i bought .

Thanks !

Would there be significant changes in the 5.3 from '07 to '13? They're both from gmt900's so I think that it's the same engine.

But definitely do your homework before buying something as expensive as an engine!

Look at the RPO sticker in the glovebox and see what RPO matches that BlackZ71Silverado posted.

Once you know for sure which RPO code you have, you should know what kind if job you are getting into.

Do you have any idea which engine you purchased? There should have been some paperwork with it.

Ok I'm back , the engine swap went well everything worked fine after swapping the throttle body back to the old one, it was doing around 2100 raves just parked, another thing i notice after the install was the newer engine doesn't have the low oil sensor on the oil pan so I'm getting the low oil light in the dash.

after driving it for a couple of day just fine, today it started acting up on me, the antisway traction control turns off on its owned when ever I hit a stoplight and it feel like its about to turn off, but once I'm driving every thing is fine again don't know whats happening now :dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno::dunno:

Thanks everybody for the advise, engine is working fine all that was wrong after scanning it was a misfire on #7 and # 8 cylinder due to a loose cable and a faulty spark plug boot .

thanks again.

Yes, I used the same computer and everything is working fine and like you said everything is plug and play, i did get the "add oil" message at start-up to not come up again by jumping the connector .
