AFM delete question

I was wandering, if I delete my AFM through a tuner, will this have any negative effect on the AFM system. One more thing, if I set my shift points all the way up, can it cause tranny failure??

I doubt it will do any damage to the AFM system, maybe the internal mechanics over a period of time without use if anything. Just my guess.

 

About the trans shift points, you should worry more about the engine than the trans. Letting the engine go to higher RPMs constantly will put more wear on it. Especially in a lot of stop and go traffic. If you want the shift points higher then just turn on the tow.haul mode and turn it off if you're in the mountains or a hilly area.

Learning about the programmer world, I think I'll go with Hypertech 2.0 since its CA safe and just set it at 87 tune for now and leave the points alone, or just go up a little this should give me a better shift response right. I'm not racing the truck, but I do drive about 40mi a day 5 days/week up decent hills. It seems like I'm constantly pushing the pedal down to maintain the lower gears. Don't need a rocket, just want a little bit more kick. I also installed a Magnaflow and KN drop in. They should work well together, so I have read. Thanks for the input!

I wouldn't mess with the shift points. Do you know what axle gears you have? I have 3.08s which I hate, but with that high of gear (low #) it seems to not handle hills as good as lower gears like my 98 with 3.73s. I could be wrong, but just what it seems like. I don't really have much trouble on hills though, especially if the cruise is on. I do plan on putting lower gears in the truck whenever I can, at least to 3.42s.

3.42's. I have been using tow haul and it's been good. Just didn't know if it was ok to run it without a load. . I know that the 5.3 has plenty of power for what I'm using it for ( right now just getting to work ) but I know that there is more power hidden behind the factory settings and just want the most power I can get without hurting it. Have you heard of the sprint booster throttle advancer? Maybe this is all I need??? Kind of expensive though, and for just a little more I can get a tune. I don't know

Turning the AFM off makes everything better. As for your throttle response, check out the thread for the pedal flex fix. The gas pedal is a terrible design and just a simple piece of rubber or something behind the bracket makes a world of difference.

The AFM will work just fine, mine was off for over 2 years. Returned the back to stock and it works perfectly fine.

You really cannot delete the AFM system unless you replace all of the lifters and other AFM components with non AFM parts. You can deactivate it, however.

M6, vibration at about 45 mph. When I drive in M5 no steering wheel vibration. M6, vibration returns. Back to M5, no vibration. Same speed. I just drive in M5 all the time. I don't think turning it off is going to damage anything as it is the same as M5 around town. I don't know if AFM comes on at turnpike speeds.
