Exhaust Resonator?

I had a custom exhaust put on by shop with ProXS muffler.

I was under truck the other day and I noticed two things; a big freaking round thing (guessing it's a resonator?) just before the flange (where you hook on a cat back system) and then after the flange (towards back of truck) some kind of mesh flex pipe.

I'm assuming the big round thing right by flange is a resonator? Anyone have it cut off? Just wondering if I would have better sound if that thing was removed (not talking about cats).

I don't know if mine is different but my resonator was over the rear axle and I removed it which made it a little louder. From what you describe it's sounds like your talking about the 3rd cat which is unmonitored and can be removed if you don't have to meet emissions standards and it will make it louder as well. I have the Borla touring and it's to quite. I am thinking of doing the ProXS on mine as well. Are you happy with the sound?

I love the sound but it could be a bit louder.

Hmm; I wonder what this other thing is then. Unless it's a cat--if it is, that's a BIG cat.

Here is a photo; it's the circled red thing.

That's the 3rd cat in the picture there. It can be removed as mentioned above I'm thinking of doing that myself

Yep, it goes from 2 primary cats to the 1 - 3rd cat then into the muffler with the flapper valve, then it goes out into the resonator and then to the exhaust tip.

If you remove the 3rd cat should you remove the flex pipe? What's the point of the flex pipe anyways

The flex pipe is on the stock cat back and you can leave it on.

I know factory pipe is 2.75 but what size is the end if the Y where the 3rd cat is?
