Bow-tie degrading....

Sirs...

Original owner of 2003 2500HD, 8.1L , Allison, 4.1 rear end... used for

towing 13k 5th wheel. Would like to get to 20 years with this configuration.

As such, I usually take care of issues as they pop up. This issue ,

purely cosmetic ...the front end bow tie has started allowing water into the

badge resulting in sealed foiled peeling/separating with the badge. A common

occurrence apparently as I see many in similar condition. I'm guessing OEM

replacement is spendy ( probably have to buy the pot metal strip ?) So,

just wondering what options might be available, or what have you seen done.

I know, doesn't effect the running of the truck, but I like the truck to look nice.

yup, mine is happening too. Front and back on my 2012. I'll delete the rear tailgate bowtie, I prefer the clean look.

Colossus...it seems commonplace. If too much cost involved will

probably hit up all the Pick n pulls.

Yep..did that first Spurshot. Just wondered what forum gurus have done

to address the issue. Apologies .

no problem here... just thought some here might have "insights" on options.

Apologies if I am on the wrong forum, and wasting binary code. . Just trying to see what others have done.

Thanks.

Ebay or Amazon is probably your best bet. You could also plasti-dip it or vinyl wrap it.

You're fine. I think it is cool you are taking care of it vs ignoring it.

Regardless, aside from a dealer & as Daryl mentioned above, look at ebay, Amazon, have it wrapped or look in junk yards. Though most likely the latter will be peeling/faded too.

O1LS1...

Agree... out here in the sun in Az the peeling/faded seems to be the standard. Guess Ebay / Amazon Prime

seem the better options. Subtle differences in model year... seem to pull approx. $39 - $50 for just the badge.

The wrap is inexpensive, but, not sure how that will hold up to the never-ending road work season. Don't

have experience with the dip. Looks like throwing some money at it is the answer... just for giggles I'll call

my service manager at the dealership and see what they charge for a replacement.
