Homelink issues?

Anyone have issues with homelink distance issues? My 2015 silverado won't open my garage door if I back into my driveway. I have to drive in and have my front bumper within 2-3 feet of my garage door before it'll work.

Is there a solution to this? New homelink module? Bad antenna on mine (if they have them?). It's quite annoying to back in then have to get out and use the keypad to open the garage.

Thanks!

I've noticed this too. I can be in my driveway and it works once, then doesn't, but works again later, all parked in the same spot.

Probably doesn't apply, but I had a wireless security camera in my garage that killed the door opener range. Unplugged the camera and range back to normal. Different brand of camera solved the problem.

My 2011 truck homelink range was already less than the garage door opener separate remote so that compounded the problem.

Mine works great. I'd say 75 feet range. I have genie intellicode openers if that matters.

Do you have led bulbs in your garage door opener? I read something that stated led bulbs emit a frequency that can cause trouble. I didn't believe it myself until I changed back to CFL and range went back to normal.

My 2016 Silverado seems to have a shorter range than my '07 Avalanche and my wife's '08 Enclave. Both of those older vehicles I can/could open my Genie Intellicodes openers from 3-4 houses away. My '16 won't open either door until I am right at the house. Also the buttons on the older vehicles had a softer push to activate. My 16 Silverado seems like you have to push the buttons really hard to even get them to activate.

(Don't have LED bulbs in my openers.)

Just another small thing that drives me a little crazy about my new '16.

put new batteries in your opener and reprogram the home link

No issues at all.

Guys wth issues, are you pressing and holding the button in until door opens or pressing the button and letting go right away?

As long as I press the button and let it go right away, then everything works like my 05 and 09 Silverado's did.

My programming won't work with just the remote. I need to use the button directly on the opener. It's a lift master opener.

I'll maybe try with the truck parked further away... But I doubt that'll help.

Mine has very short distance activation as well. If I back in it doesn't work and it won't activate until I get within 30 feet of the door.

My truck has a really short range, if I back in it won't even open the door. I have to pull in facing the garage door then get right up on it before it will open. With the factory supplied remote in my wife's car the garage door opens much farther away, it must be something with the programming in the truck.

Has anyone found a fix to extend the range?

Homelink in my 2014 sierra is a piece of junk. I've grow weary of how engineers at this auto company have cut costs to maximize profits.

Same thing. MUCH shorter activation range than all my other cars, past and present.

The transmitter or whatever you call it that sends the signal from the truck to the garage door is near the front of the truck back behind the bumper/radiator somewhere, (as is common with most homelink type devices on most brand vehicles out there) Keep in mind that it is a radio signal that is being sent out. Most folks keep their garage door openers up by their sun visor- where the signal only needs to travel through glass. The signal with homelink is traveling through metal. SO the range will indeed be more limited, and the direction the vehicle faces does make a difference. Also make sure that your garage door opener antenna is not coiled up of obstructed by the opener.
