Help with steering issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 Silverado Regular cab Z71 with 20" wheels. I found that I was constantly compensating to keep the truck on the road. After seeing my dealer he checked the alignment and reset the toe. The truck did drive much better, but it had a small pull to the right. Even on the hiway in the left lane it would pull to the right.

I just took it back to the dealer and he told me the alignment was all perfect but they found an update for PSCM . Its called PSCM #31540. Then after that they reset and relearned the angle sensor.

Now the steering is so tight that even the slightest movement changes your direction. There is absolutely no play in the steering.

I had the manager drive it and he says its perfect and they have no intentions of fixing it.

Not sure what I can do. I hate driving it like this. Is there a way to clear the programming or something to fix this.

Problem with taking it another dealer is GM only allows 1 alignment under warranty and now I am expected to pay for the alignment.

Too be honest, I'd rather have no play in the wheel that play. Much easier to maneuver. especially to avoid having an accident. Unless the truck turns way more than it should with the turn of the wheel so you can't make any fine adjustment. It's going to be less play in these K2 1500s because they're electronic rack and pinion which feels much better than the hydraulic system in the '98 I used to have and the HD trucks.

If the steering is tight as you say, it's not the alignment but the electronic steering...pulling to one side or another could also be a bad tires. Did they rotate the tires ?

The truck has 2500 kms on it and no they didn't rotate the tires.

Does anyone know how to reset the electronic steering?

Disconnect your battery for 30 minutes. See if that helps.

I'll try that. I talked to 4 GM dealerships and since they are all owned by the same company not a single one is willing to touch my truck. I even talked to GM Canada with no real help either.

As far as Im concerned. If this is the way GM looks after their products I think its time to go to a different manufacturer.

Is this your first vehicle with the EPS? I will say it definitely takes some getting used to especially in the trucks.

this is my 5 or 6th. I have had a 2015 sierra double cab, 2015 canyon, 2015 regal GS, 2015 ford fusion, 2015 santé fe, now a 2015 Silverado.

No I don't think this is my first Electronic steering vehicle.

Took it to a different dealer and they found not only the toe was out but the caster was also out. Truck drives awesome now

Did you have to pay for the alignment?

You bet. $140. Gonna be talking to the other dealer to get reimbursement

If that does not work, a letter to Gm along with the new invoice for the alignment will help. Make sure you send the previous work orders too.
