Car Play and Android Auto Suspension

Well, that actually (based on the URL) is listed for the 2017 Terrain. And the phrase "if equipped" implies that it may not be included in certain situations. So it's still not at all clear to me that you *will* get Carplay if you have IO5 or IO6 on the 2017 Sierra. I just did a chat with GMC sales and the agent couldn't even confirm that Carplay would be included with the IO5 system.

I'm expecting that it would be included, but the whole issue of the suspension in late model year 2016 combined with the unclear info on the website (and even sales chat) makes me a little worried now that I'm about to place an order for a 2017 model. The Carplay feature is an extremely important feature for me and it's quite frankly crazy that I can't get an easy confirmation that a 2017 SLE will *definitely* have the capability.

Didn't see where it was for the terrain. I clicked on your link for the 2017 Sierra. I saw the intellilink how to guide on the left of the page. That is where it took me. Sorry for the confusion but it seems the GMC website is still messed up with the new model year changes. Hopefully you get the right answer soon.

If I were you I would simply write on any contract that having said feature is 'of the essence'. That means if it shows up without the contract is null and void. You can put whatever you want in a contract as long as both parties agree to it. If they do not want to do that ... just walk and come back when they have one on the lot you can physically test before purchase. You will probably get a better deal later anyway but who knows they already offered me 16% off a 2017 which I was a bit surprised by, still not going for it though. I do not think they sold a ton in 2016 at least in my area I see a ton of 2014/15 GM's but only a few 2016's on the road, of course I would see fewer but I mean like I see enough 2016 car and suv just not trucks.

I have been looking into this same issue. One of the members on this forum that has a 2017 confirmed that it has CarPlay. I asked on the Chevy website and their customer service said that it does not have CarPlay. My local dealer said it does. Not sure who to believe. I ordered anyway with nav. I hope that it does have it, and will be disappointed if it doesn't, but i think it will be included.

I've checked a few '17s at work and they all had carplay and android auto. I think it's just the trucks with nav though

This is so odd. I just got off the phone with a GMC corporate rep who definitively stated that Carplay will not be available on the 2017 Sierra 1500, but will be available on the Sierra 1500 Denali. GMC is making a huge mistake here with this lack of clarity. It very well could turn me off to buying a Sierra. I'm certainly not going to pay a $10k+ premium to get a Denali just for Carplay.

Can anyone confirm that a 2017 Sierra SLE with the IO5 (non-navigation) unit supports Carplay? I'd go check myself at a local dealer but I don't see a 2017 SLE with IO5 on the lot. I may have to wait until they get more 2017 inventory unless someone can confirm.

Call around is 2017's sitting on lots up here in Canada. Unless you are in Timbucktwo there should be some around (hard to tell em from 2016's visually)

This one (not my town) claims it is upgradable to IO6 (assuming that means has IO5). http://www.crosstownchev.ca/VehicleDetails/new-2017-GMC-Sierra_1500-SLE-Sudbury-ON/2827988993

Call the dealership and make a salesman go out and physically check for you not like they have anything better to do, really they dont. :)

Well, I just spent a couple hours at a dealership and am more confused than ever. I found a 2017 SLE with IO6 that *does* have Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but then found this in the distribution updates for the order guide:

Effective 7/11/2016, the following changes will be made to the Vehicle Order Guide:

  • Interior section-(IOB) Audio system, 7" diagonal Color Touch Screen with IntelliLink, removed "featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability for compatible phone" from extended description.
  • Interior section-(IO5) Audio system, 8" Diagonal Color Touch Screen with IntelliLink, removed "advanced phone integration featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay" from extended description.
  • Interior section-(IO6) Audio system, 8" Diagonal Color Touch Screen Navigation with IntelliLink, removed "advanced phone integration featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay" from extended description.

See: https://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NASApp/domestic/distupdate.jsp?year=2017&regionID=1&divisionID=2&vehicleID=20067&daterange=52

So unless this is one massive marketing screwup, it looks like any 2017 Sierra 1500 (except for Denalis) ordered after 7/11/2016 will *NOT* have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto functionality. There is no mention of a different RPO code or different equipment being used after that date, so are they going to start differentiating functionality with firmware based on a vehicle order date? I'm about ready to walk away from GMC over this. Absolutely shameful business practice to introduce a feature and then yank it away within a year without explanation or notification. Even the dealer salespeople have no clue what is going on.

looks like you found your answer. unless it specifically states the extended decription than no it will not have it.

retarded on thier part I agree. Some idiot at GM cost them a ton of sales. Looks like your only recourse is to find one on a lot you like you can test or walk away.

I'm not making a decision yet. I really like everything else about the Sierra. And I'm still not convinced that there isn't just some mistake being made regarding the change in language. No one to my knowledge has actually seen a 2017 Sierra without Carplay, but I guess based on the production updates it may still be a little while for vehicles made under the changed order guide to show up on lots.

I'm also wondering if the same folks who have been making upgrades for the 2014-2015 models might be able to get Carplay to work if GMC is actually disabling it from now on.

Also, what would actually differentiate the equipment from an IO6 system in the Denali? Would GMC actually disable something in firmware while still using the exact same hardware?

The part is $850 from GM and not currently available, that will be your price as an employee feel free to check. You got robbed with a -$200 discount IMO also your entire infotainment system is slower since it is the same processor in the 2015's. Good luck.

doesn't bother me so much i would prolly never use it since i never plug my phone in while in the truck at least i get text and such through my link on blue tooth knowing how gm is there will be a recall lmao.. i can't complain 43k window sticker and walked away 5 months left on my old truck and lowered my payment 90 bucks no money down and i pay 260 a month for a bad ass truck lol

GM is handling this all wrong, as usual. It's only going to lead to a lot of pissed off consumers. If they are ditching CP/AA, or suspending it indefinitely, they need to TELL people, starting with their own dealerships.

I went on both the Chevy and GMC sites and built trucks. Nowhere is there a mention of CP/AA in any of the options. And if you look at the 2017 Denali features page, it shows a picture of the CarPlay screen(with the caption "previous year model shown"), but there's no mention of it in the text. They sure touted it last year, and now? Nothing. Looks like they are taking the Hillary Clinton approach regarding disclosure of this fact.

I bought the CP/AA upgrade from MVI and it works great. However, I don't think I would do it over just because CarPlay is not nearly as cool as I thought it would be. I end up using the stock Intellilink interface more than CP. I find it's too limited and confining. I prefer to use the steering wheel controls for phone and audio.

Bottom line for me is, unless CarPlay gets waaay cooler in the future, it will not play at all into my car buying decision.

And as for what GM is up to, who the hell knows.
