On April 28th I placed an order for a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT, 6.2L, Crew Cab, Standard Box, NHT-Max Trailering Package in Stone Blue Metallic. The truck was placed as a 'SOLD' order at each (total of two) of the dealership's GMC stores.

An allocation for the 6.2l was made on May 3rd and went Code 2000.

On May 10th the truck was accepted by production control and achieved Code 3000.

On May 12th the truck was assigned a TPW of June 13th.

Seems like she's moving along! I will keep this thread updated for all whom are interested in the timetable for 2016 6.2l's.

I know a lot of people will ask why my order has progressed so quickly - here is some information about my dealership:

  • The owner of the dealership has three locations
  • One location has all 4 GM brands
  • One location has Chevy and Cadillac
  • One location has GMC and Buick
  • Each locations moves AT LEAST 300-400 units a month
  • Owner of dealership is a prominent member of the various GM-dealer owner's board (whatever you may call it)

I got lucky. Found a 2016 Sierra Texas Edition, 6.2l NHT Max tow pkg on line, at a dealer 90 miles from me. Sent an email to confirm he still ad it on a Saturday, sales guy responded Sunday morning, went there Monday and drop it home. Had everything I needed and could have wanted except cooled seats, but the AC is really strong. She's a beaut and the ride is great, with wow power under a smooth 8 speed.

That's pretty awesome! No one anywhere near me has an SLT with 6.2l and NHT - a real shame because it makes it such a capable truck!

What have you towed with it already?

Only towing locally to get wdh reset. I have a 28ft Coachman Apex with big slide out. Dry weight at 5400lbs, i"m probably at just under 7000lbs loaded. This Sierra rated to tow at 11,700lbs. I'll never tow anything even close to that. Payload is 1842lbs. Would be higher but is 4X4. I used to tow this trailer with a 2008 Yukon Denali, tow rated at 7900lbs. Towed fine, even in the North Carolina mountains. The Denali was getting on in years and miles. We plan a cross country this year and that was just the excuse i needed to upgrade! Really great truck.

Man I know I'm gonna get bashed for this. And what makes it more sad is that I have one... what does NHT stand for?

NHT Max Trailering Package

NHT is the ordering code (RPO code) for max tailering package.

NHT Max Trailering Package, On Crew Cab and Double Cab models, includes 9.76" rear axle, (JL1) trailer brake controller, enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR

The list of RPO codes for a truck will be on a sticker in the glovebox.

Yes, an external tranny cooler, and oil cooler I believe too. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Ran my PRO codes today and looked around the engine bay. I have PRO codes KC4 for external engine oil cooler and KNP for external trans cooler. Z85 suspension and Z82 trailer pkg. Made my freaking day having the KC4 & KNP. I did see the engine oil cooler lines coming off the engine. I also pulled some good diagrams from some online dealers. The engine oil cooler goes into the passenger side of the radiator. There is no external engine oil cooler. Engine oil cooler is the passenger side tank of the radiator. I had no idea there was a separate chamber in the top of the condenser for the trans lines. From the research I've been doing I'm only missing (terms of cooling) is the larger max tow pkg radiator, which should be a direct swap out. So I'm looking at swapping out the radiator and rear leafs and adding tow mirrors. And throw a P3 brake controller in the dash pocket. I can live with those mods. As for shocks I'll stick to the OEM Z85's until they wear out and will do some bilstein replacements. I'm not a Rancho fan. Nor do I want some botique high dollar set of shocks. Believe it or not, when I built my straight axle 4runner rock crawler which was also my daily driver in Tampa, I tried a ton of shocks and ended up with Yellow Monroes. On my F250 6.0 which had the FX4 off-road pkg, which had rock hard Rancho shocks, I ended up with Monro Reflex shocks. The Reflexes transformed that Super Duty. Monroe does not list reflexes for our trucks...

Anyway, found some good parts diagrams. The engine oil cooler is on the passenger side of the radiator and has the larger metal piping. The below pic for the engine oil cooler looks like it's mirriored or something. Note the lines come off the oil filter side which is on the driver side. in the pic below they show the filter on the passenger side. Trans cooler is on the driver side of the radiator and then connects to the top portion of the condenser, using smaller metal piping. There is only the radiator and condenser/trans cooler. the engine oil cooler does not have a separate sandwiched cooler.

It didn't bring up the images from the quote.

Yes. Oil cooler is integrated into the radiator, the transmission aux cooler is the top 1/5th of the ac condenser. All 2014+up V8 trucks have the oil and transmission coolers.
