Road Noise Reduction

I know this may get moved and that is fine.

I've got a 2016 GMC SLT Crew Cab 5.3L that seems pretty quiet riding around town.

I do a lot of highway driving and anything about 60mph+ the truck seems to have road noise - not loud, but constant and noticeable to me. My phone app DB meter registers around 70-75db on hwy and 55-65 driving around town. The 60-65 range would be nice on the highway if achievable without going to crazy lengths.

I've got the stock tires Lr-2's which I looked up and they get an "ok" rating for quietness and I know there are other tires that may be quieter, but I've only got 6k on these so I'm not going to jump to different tires yet.

I've done a lot of searching but don't see many 14/15/16s with people doing dynamat (or equivalent product) and I know the 14/15/16 are supposed to be quieter than the 11/12/13s due to redesign.

I'm curious if anyone with a 14/15/16 has done dynamat and if it's a significant reduction in road noise over the stock interior? If so where did you install, floors, floors&doors, floors&doors&roof?

I have an 06 which isn't a new truck, and I've used Thermo-Tec sound deadener in it. So far I have it on the rear extended cab doors, and the front two doors and it definitely makes a difference.

You might actually be surprised all GM's sound deadening they did to these trucks, including thicker front windshield and side windows

strip it to the metal!

2 products on the floor will really quite down the cab from bulk head to rear glass.

CLD (aka dynamat) Knukoncept has 100 mil/ foil is 10mil CLD & Luxury liner pro by second skin. these 2 products are HEAVY!

Doors

I add thinner CLD about 30% coverage on the outer skin, about 50-80% on inner frame (back side frame hidden from view) and door panel then add self adhesive stinger foam the actual door panel, so its sandwiched in-between the door panel and frame (do keep in mind total door weight don't go over board)

I have not done the roof yet, I might just skip it its nice already.

Yes it will add reduction in sound road noise , it provides huge insulation potential cooler/warmer esp on black/Onyx trucks

you will never rid the vehicle of road noise, also having a highway tire helps. I can say this I don't hear suspension anymore I only feel it in the seat and steering wheel its a bit odd at first.

It really brings my Bose sound system alive, lots more bass punch have to turn it down a bit.

I just installed Noico 80 mil on the inner and outer part of the doors as well as inside the front fender wells behind the guards. Definitely a difference. I've already ordered sound dampening pads for the doors and am planning on doing the entire cab eventually plus the hood liner. As of now the only real noticeable noise from the outside is the K & N sucking air if I hit the gas. I work remotely so trying to make my truck as quiet as possible so I can take conference calls while on the road without anyone knowing. Plus it really makes listening to music a lot more enjoyable.

I did notice when working on the doors that their is a small piece of sound dampening in the door but I don't believe enough to make that much of a difference. There is also a blanket that hangs between the door and the trim which I believe is for sound deadening from the factory.

Dropping 10dB on the highway with any sound deadener is going to be tough. I did the entire inside of my 350z with raam audio products, utilizing both their raam mat and their ensolite foam and only dropped 7dB. With as quiet as these new trucks are you are going to have a hard, expensive, and time consuming task to get it down to 60-65dB. If you really want to try it, best bet is firewall, inner and outer door skins, and back wall. The floor is fairly dense and covered so not much gets through there and the roof doesn't offer much in terms of road noise. Make sure you cover up every single opening you can and get as much on every panel as you can.
