zmnypit- Do you think you could do a step by step on how to swap connectors and do a re-pin to get rid of the unneccesary harness? Exactly what you need, what goes where, and any pictures you might have to help?

On page 10 you can see what wires go where. I added a capacitor between the yellow and black wire. And a hyperflash resistor between the turnsignal wire and black wire. If I can find time to take it back apart for a few hrs I dont mind. Work has been wide open so I haven't had much free time.

Yeah I saw the pictures you put on page 10, and I saw the link you put to the new connectors you used. I'm just not overly experienced when it comes to electrical, but I'm definitely capable if I have good direction. If you were able to do that for me/anyone else who wants to do this, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The grounds are good and everything works with no issues. The driver is looking for individual circuits, one pos/neg. I can hook up an led to each side and since its using its on ground it works perfectly. One cuts off the other comes on and so forth.

Have you got this fixed? if not send me an e-mail at [email protected] with a way to get a hold of you and we can do a test on how to help.

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the 2016 headlights in a 2015 truck other than the DRLs not turning off when you signal. Short question I guess being "will I just be able to buy the wire harness from Gen5 and the 2016 headlights and it work with the exception of the DRLs not turning off when signaling?" I have a 2015 All Terrain SLT and want the 2016 SLT headlights.

Thanks!

You should be good with just new 2016 style connectors ( ebay link in prev posts ) and a repin of your existing headlight wiring....and a set of new headlights of course.

Great! Thanks ricker6869 for the reply. Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by "repin."

Repin meaning to take the new connectors you suggested buying and cut the old off the factory harness and replace with new 2016 connectors so the headlight will adapt. Think I got it. What's with the Gen5 adapter harness then-not needed?

Sierra X,

Since you have existing AT/SLT led lighting, you will not need a Gen5 harness. You will need new 2016 style connectors (see ebay link in thread) to fit the new 2016 headlights. After you buy the new style connectors, you can take apart your 2015 headlight connectors and repin (re-arrange) the wiring into the new connector like Zmnypit did in post #135 in this thread (see his picture). Reassemble and you should be done...Note, the issue with the DRL not cutting out when signaling is still being sorted out.

I have a 2015 SLE Crew Cab...what would I need to do the upgrade? Do I need the harness as mines a SLE. I need brighter lights being in the sticks and all the deer around here.

Has anything been done about using the repin method and getting the turn signals to work correctly? At this point even if you have an 14/15 SLT is it worth it to just pay for the harness and have them working correctly? Nothings been said here for a bit.

I don't think the turn signals work correctly with the harness either. The harness is required for sle models that didn't have dedicated drl

    • Because that is IDIOTIC, much like this question. They've already been forced to do it by past administrations - why would you roll that back when it's a GOOD thing?  WHO IS ARGUING FOR LOWER MILEAGE???? 😂  NOBODY IS!!   I'm certainly not! What I want is RELIABLE vehicles again that are worth the price paid!    I don't get your logic here ...   In 2003 I paid $2,200 for our '86 Grand Marquis. It's STILL running and I've never been inside the engine, aside for the timing cover since it was leaking, so I threw a new timing set in since that makes sense. Transmission is ORIGINAL. Electric pump in the gas tank is ORIGINAL. Rear end is ORIGINAL. I'd have to hit my head REAL hard to want to pay $60k or more for a car that still can't come close to the comfort, seating and storage space, or reliability of this one. Nothing is even in the ball park! Hundreds of thousands of brands and models have been built and sent to the crusher while this one keeps on going!   https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   I've got a whole fleet of cars, motorcycles, and a truck close to this age for summer and winter. No one could pay me enough to buy anything built this century. I have zero use for any it.
    • Since I'm the one who has to fix them when they break, I'll take vehicles over 30 years old all day, EVERY day, over ANY modern crap. Have you attempted any repairs on anything built after 2006? It's a friggin nightmare, and gets worse the newer the model year.    If I had the will or desire, I can make any car of any age outside of a Model T (I don't have THAT much will ...) just as powerful, comfortable, and have all the tech the new stuff does, and get pretty close in mileage, too. I prefer SIMPLICITY. The less the vehicle has, the less to fix WHEN it breaks, not IF.   I'm glad you snot-nosed punks don't like them. More for us, plus that keeps the prices from climbing more than they already have.👍
    • Bringing this thread back on topic. I just noticed the incredible lack of bright chrome across the entire new lineup. Even the Denali has tinted the brightwork in the grille and has none elsewhere. None of them have chrome bumpers. As far as I can tell there aren't even chrome mirror caps. I'm curious if this also happens out back? Are there no chrome rear bumpers either? This is quite the departure for GMC.
