I have a '15 Sierra without navigation. I am looking at the factory io5 to io6 nav upgrade.Just interested to see if anyone has done this upgrade and what their thoughts were as far as the performance etc of these nav systems.

I have read all the threads on the MVI navs, just not sure if i need a unlocked setup.

Thanks in advance

Rick

I did the MVI/GM navigation upgrade. The installation was very easy and everything works great. I don't understand all of the complaints about the speed of the unit or it's capabilities. It does everything that my Garmin does relative to navigation and it is just as quick when preparing routes or rerouting. A pro for the GM Navigation is that I can look up a route on my GM app and send it to my truck. On the other hand, my Garmin map updates are free, whereas the GM maps are around $150. I like the unit but keep my Garmin in the cab as a reserve. I didn't see the need to unlock my unit. I stay focused on maneuvering traffic when I'm behind the wheel.

Also, be prepared to deal with OnStar and Sirius if you do the upgrade. They have to adjust their records to show that you have navigation before you can us the GM app to send your route to the truck or use Sirius traffic and weather. All of that is pretty well documented on this site.

I'll save the $1,000+ price tag and use my phone for GPS.

lol yup. Google Maps is just as good if not better than any stand alone GPS or built in GPS of a vehicle. Plus it's all free. I also bought a holder for it that suctions to the windshield if it's a longer trip. I know the screen is much bigger than a smartphone's which might be better for someone with bad eyes, but I have no problem with it. I thought about upgrading mine for the GPS since you can also get weather, but of course I have 4 or 5 weather apps on my phone as well so no real need. The only real plus for built in GPS on these trucks for me is that it tells you the speed limit in case you're not familiar with it or can't remember.

    • Real Truck handles the warranty via GM.  We don't submit a warranty claim with GM, we have to submit it with Real Truck with a specific email/phone number.  Real Truck determines if the issue is covered or not based on the issue and pictures submitted.
    • Some clarification may help with some of these issues.   - Rev Industries is/was the division of BAK (now Realtruck) that makes covers under the OEM names.  So if you see one with a Ford logo on it, or if you are buying the GM Accessories cover, you are essentially buying a BAK G2 cover with different branding.   - Rev Industries now markets under RealTruck "Advantage."   - As of May 1, 2025, the Advantage covers now have a 5 year warranty.  Anything before that was a 36/36K warranty.   - Parts for the covers are available from Realtruck or BAK.  The email address to reach them is [email protected] or you can call them at 818-365-9000   - If the entire cover has to be replaced, you have to go through your local GM dealer.  Service dept opens an RO, notes the damage and submits it as a warranty claim.  Keep your paperwork handy so they can confirm when you purchased it and it's within the warranty timeframe.  Once the warranty claim is approved, Parts orders the replacement cover.  When it arrives at the dealership, service will remove and install the new one for free as labor is included under warranty.   - The Advantage covers are not the latest and greatest Gen 3 covers.  They still use the old school clamps, elevator bolts, etc...If you want the newer technology, consider buying your cover in the aftermarket world.  That way, if you have an issue you can deal directly with the manufacturer.   - Finally, RealTruck has a program with many of their authorized dealers that doubles the warranty to 10 years if the authorized dealer does the install.     Hope this helps.
    • Welcome to the group!  My '22 just crossed 150K miles.  Runs perfectly.  Oil pump belt will be done in the next 30 days or so and onward hopefully for another 150K.  Love the truck.
    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
