A/C Issues!

Hey guys, my 04 z71 is having some A/C issues... Heres some backround, Air worked perfectly last summer, ice cold. Went through winter without using it and now it doesn't blow cold at all. Compressor kicks on for about 2 seconds then shuts right off for about 15 seconds. Freon level is good, just changed the low pressure switch with no results. AC lines do not get cold, no water leaks to the ground from condensation, and all fuses are good. What can this be? I'm fairly confused and new to air conditioning systems.. Thanks guys!

Also shorted out which ever switch is on the accumulator and I can manually keep the compressor running.. Maybe I confused my high/low switch?

 

does this mean the switch is bad on the accumulator?

What are your pressures at what temp?

i dont have a gauge for high side, but low side is about 45-50 psi at 90 degrees

Unitl you properly diagnoss the problem with the high and low pressures, you will spend a bunch of money replacing parts and praying for a fix.

Okay I get that, do you know which switch the one on the accumulator is? High or low? If i short that out the compressor stays on.

 

 

Also what should the correct pressures be when I get the gauges?

Cousin works at stealership, gonna bring it in tomorrow and see what is going on. Best part it will be free lol. Ill let you know what it was if we can figure it out tomorrow

Sounds like the high pressure switch may be bad. Have you checked both the high and low pressure switches on the compressor?

Couple of questions - observations

Is the 50psi reading on the low side with the compressor engaged? If the compressor is not engaged with that reading, it is LOW on freon.

The switch on the accumulator is the low side switch, so it sounds like you are low on freon.

Sorry for some reason was not thinking clearly on my first post but ellaborating on what muddkatt said, does your compressor only cycle on once after you start the truck or does it just continuously cycle about every 15 seconds? If so that is another sign of low freon.

Thank you guys for the answers! It was low on freon, took about 20 OZ LOL... I put it together in my head when i noticed the pressure at 100 psi when i had the gauge hooked up to the low side and it would stay at 100 when the compressor kicked on (must be the preset for the compressor when it low on freon) so I loaded it up and low and behold the compressor kicked on and stayed on. Silly me for not catching this in the beginning but I am fairly new to the A/C side of things. Like I said though thanks alot!

You probably have a leak as well. It is a 12 yr old truck & there could easily be a slow leak that has developed somewhere in the system.
