HoosierZ Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 After coming across pics of the Mazzulla skid plate, I decided to pull off my lower bumper plastic and see if I can come up with a filler to cover the center opening in the bumper. There are several holes as well as a couple of brackets to mount off of. I'm thinking of maybe a couple pieces of tube. A straight piece across the bottom flush with the bottom of the bumper and another piece that runs along the top of the opening and bends down between the tow hooks and will be notched and welded to the lower tube. A piece of aluminum or stainless will fill the space between the tubes. I'm open to any ideas or suggestions.

CptMcSaug Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Same company makes a bar to there and start with: http://mzoffroad.com/2016-chevy-1500-bumper-tube.html
techsan15 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 I emailed Mazzulla about a Sierra version and they said there wasn't enough demand....If any sierra owners see this, email them and get that demand up.
HoosierZ Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 Here's what I have in mind. The center plate will be brushed aluminum or stainless with black filler panels around the tow hooks. Thinking of some dimple died holes in the center.
amxguy1970 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Did your truck come with the metal skid plate stock or was it added by either you or the dealer? Tyler
HoosierZ Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 I bought the aluminum skid plates from the dealer after seeing the worthless plastic plate they now put on their so-called "Z71 Offroad" package. Picked up a piece of 1-1/4" tubing today to start on my filler panel.
HoosierZ Posted August 4, 2016 Author Posted August 4, 2016 Cut the bottom tube and mocked up the hoop with some PVC to get an idea how wide and tall I want the hoop. The hoop will be about 2" wider at the bottom with the ends angled steeper. I'll try to get it bent tomorrow.
Txpipeliner Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 The mazzula plate looks good. Any dealers for them on here?

HoosierZ Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 Welded on end caps and mounting brackets. Try to bend the hoop tomorrow.
HoosierZ Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 Bent and notched the hoop today. These areas around the tow hooks will be blocked off with black plastic behind the bumper.
HoosierZ Posted August 6, 2016 Author Posted August 6, 2016 Lookin good so far.Thank you. I made a mounting bracket to weld to the hoop that will attach to existing holes in the center of the bumper. Made a template for the skid plate. It will be brushed stainless with dimpled holes. Trimmed 2" off the front of the fender liners where they hung below the bumper. Before After
