2016 5.3 6 speed. Do these trucks have learning transmission programming that adapts to the driver? I've gone easy the first 2 months and now the tranny seems much less responsive and resistant to downshift than week 1. If it did learn my driving, if you stomp on it for a few days will it downshift quicker?

The word from the dealers is that there is a learning process involved with transmission programming. That may be the case in some small way. There may be some routine that fine tunes the base program. The funny thing is, I didn't experience any learning mode when I applied a Diablo tune to my transmission. The change was immediate and for the better. So I'm kind of skeptical about this "learning" mode thing. I'm not sure whether the transmission is adapting to the owner or vice versa. Anyway, to address your question directly, don't baby the truck. Drive it like you normally would and after 5000 miles or so, if it isn't right take it in for service. Trust me, you wouldn't be the first.

The 6 speed in my '14 acted weird in learn mode, but after about 2-3,000 miles it started to act fine. Since then it's been perfect. Some can take a little longer from what I've read.

There are some adaptive tables in the TCM that take some time to fully set in. I don't think those tables can be wiped from a battery pull, I believe it takes using a Tech II in order to clear them.

It seems that some transmissions are unteachable. Especially ones assembled wrong or with defective components.
