Anyone have a DIY/instructions on how to remove the spring from the headlight switch.

i found out how to get access to the knob with this video.....

once you have access to the back of the panel you can pop out the actual control knob

i didn't actually take my completely apart... just enough to get it to illuminate blue instead of white....

you can also pop the center part of the knob out with a small flat screw driver (see below for where to pry.... just slowly and carefully work around the top)

Allows you to take the switch out of the auto position so the DRL don't come on.

i don't remember a spring - there was a bar running thru the housing and 'cogs' on the dial that kept the dial in a certain position

something like this (red = metal bar)

when the bar was out i could set the dial where ever i wanted.

Exactly. I just put HIDs in and don't want the DRLs coming on every time I put the truck in gear.

I just did this today. Take everything apart until you're in the guts. Once inside you'll find a small spring in one of the corners. Remove it and reassemble. Now you'll have four positions on the knob instead of three.

I took the spring out but why if it is switched to off when I put back into auto the drl do not come on. I need to switch it to auto then off and back to auto to get the drls to come on? Is this correct. I thought if it was in off and I moved to auto then the drl and auto headlight functions would work the first time it was switched. I need to switch to off then auto again for the drls to come on. Does anyone also know how the spring goes back in? Mine fell out when I opened the switch and I never saw the way it was installed.

So this may be a stupid question, but why does GM prevent you from turning off the lights with this spring? The new vehicle I purchased I can fully turn off the lights without interference of a spring. Is GM the only one who does this?

GM are the only ones I have ever been in where there is a spring. I know Honda and Toyota have no spring.
