Wheel well liners

Wondering if anyone removed the factory carpet liners to under coat so dust and dirt does get trapped and start rusting...coming from a 2005 silverado that had to replace rockers twice I don't want my 2014 to start rusting anywhere....or instead of undercoating are they easy removed to clean twice a year? I already remove the body plugs on rockers to blow them out and notice rock chip guard stuff is sprayed in the inner rockers. Has anyone done any of this?

Out of curiosity, why are they carpet anyway? Seems kind of odd considering the nasty terrain these trucks were built to deal with (mud/water/etc).

Put plastic rear liners in that have better coverage and less troubles. I replaced my rear liners this summer.

Probably designed specifically for truck usage, to soften the impact of rock and pebble hits going over rough terrain. Otherwise all that kicked up crap will dance around in the wheel wells like balls in a Bingo cage.

They assist in sound dampening and are as durable as a non lined liner...if not more.

My '13 VW Passat also has the "carpeted" wheel well liners front and rear. Seems to be the norm on many vehicles now.

Anyone attempt to spray the inner bed wheel wells with undercoating since can be access behind tail light more to prevent rust issues down the road

The new Toyota Tundra has the plastic wheel wells both front and back.

Put plastic in my 13 and like the 15's carpet better. Looks better, quieter, Fits better. Plus no hard plastic to rub against the paint either.

This!

I have seen a lot of people complaining about them being hard to clean but I have never had trouble. I just shoot them with a high-pressure wand at the car wash hand bay and they come completely clean.

The same 'carpet' style material on the liners of our GM car.

It's not a truck only thing.
