Hi,

We getting a new Silverado 1500 and are looking to save money on the extended warranty or at least get some negotiation power before we walk in. With a Toyota Corolla I was able to get my extended warranty for $750. I bought it from another dealership that knew I wouldn't be coming there way for service and just took it as profit?

Any thought including whether I really need the extended warranty would be great. Thanks in advance

I'm of the camp that says you don't need one, and didn't buy one. If you do, shop around. My credit union offered better coverage, lower deductible, and cheaper price.

You can expect them to ram it down your throat in fact. If you really want it, the best strategy is to decline it repeatedly. They will continue to come down on price and rework the deal each time you say no. My dealers final plea was "$100 above their cost", or $1100. Now of course the warranty shouldn't cost anybody a dime until you make a claim, so that's bull...

I didn't get one and never will, personally.

Yep you can buy one from any dealer. I got mine below cost because of GM Employee/Family Pricing. And the only reason is did is because of all of the electronics and computers that are on these trucks now.

Some say it is a waste. I look at it as fairly cheap insurance. And if you get rid of the vehicle you can cancel the warranty and get a prorated refund. Good Luck.

Try pricing your Ex warranty through a Fla dealer. Fla, is one of the few states that doesn't allow it's dealers to inflate the pricing on warranties.
