Added 9.5 gallons of normal gasoline...went from zero to 19% before settling at 15%. Let that sink in, zero before and adding less than a quarter tank of gad took the entire tank to 15%.

Got quality control? And this is not the first time either...highest tank I've had was 28% when it's not supposed to be more than 10%. I fuel all over, not just one station.

Maybe referring to the ethanol percentage? Only thing I can think of since not more than 10% was brought up.

Ok that would make sense then, thanks. Yeah. There should not be more than 10% unless the laws have changed.

Some states have E15 now, and I think even E20? But if the fuel is advertised as one thing and turns out to be another then that's just wrong and illegal. False advertising?

Yeah, sorry...meant to type alcohol content and didn't reread my original post.

Everything around us is marked "up to 10%", which most often it is zero or just a couple percent. There's not even a few gas stations with e85 that one could make the claim the two got mixed during transport.

In order for that partial tank to affect the whole tank alcohol content leads me to believe what I was pumping was significantly higher...again from a typical Wawa "up to 10%" pump...

Report it to a news site. They would love to catch a company doing that. There was a recall a few weeks ago over this. Maybe the recalled gas was resold!

so what is that measuring device? I see that it says Edge on it, is that a tuner that can read alcohol content in the fuel?

Just showing the info the on board systems already reading. The truck, at least if E85, already has the stuff built in to figure it out so it knows how to control the fuel, timing etc to compensate for level of ethanol.

it would be cool to see liquid metals that stay in gas...measured.

I had an old school brass filter in my 87 subaru, it runs a 1978 rochester.

sam's club has an instant catalyst event for it. no other station does it..

the gas turns brown, all the way back to filter at fuel pump.

the whole system is iron free...ecept next to carb. That is genuine gas line anyway (one can use metal brake line too). Had to go copper and stainless...modern rubber injection lines.

15psi pump.

Swapped to a modern fuel filter..paper looking ones, it clears out...fattens AFR.

quite a mystery.

We have blender pumps in many locations now. One can select E10, E15, E20, E30, and E85. I have been using E15 for the last year since it offered the best value. We'll see how prices do their seasonal adjustment this fall and I will decide what I will use then. I really have no desire to have some gauge that will analyze the levels of ethanol in the fuel. Just do not have a paranoia gland large enough to cause me to worry about it. Never had any issues with ethanol blends since the late 70's.

Neither have I had an issue with the alcohol-containing gas blends, but it is fun to track...especially to see what "up to 10%" means.

On a side note, the Toyota Rav4 rental I have states no more than e10 right on the cap, or damage to emissions equipment may result. It's not a flex fuel.

Well, this all isn't new. Ethanol has been a part of the gasoline fuel landscape for over 40 years. If the various ratios that may be in E10 were going to be a problem, then we would see vehicles broke down in rows along the roadways. And we would sure be hearing about it on the nightly news, since a vehicle is probably the second most expensive investment in something that the average person makes. Except for forums or when EPA and politicians are running for office and such are discussing things, one hardly even hears about ethanol. Sure isn't a topic that is heavily discussed every morning at the work place or coffee shop.
