2001 Yukon 4l60e strange issue.

Ok so I bought this Yukon (01 with a 5.3) and it has problems going into drive. It simply won't engage.

Now if I manually shifted the first and then second and then into drive it will work fine and not give me any issues again until I put it in park.

It's like the transmission is confused and doesn't know to engage into first unless you trick it.

also if you put it in drive and rev to about 2500 rpm's

It will slam into gear but then work fine throughout the rest the gears until going back into park. It is no problem starting in first for many RPM after the first go round.

No check engine light or anything.

Transmission fluid was right where I needed to be as well.

I've read and read and can't seem to find anybody with the same issue.

Anybody have any ideas?

Also I'm not sure if this means anything, but it seems to downshift a little too often when in cruise control.

See I thought that but my issue seems to be a little bit different. Once it engages in drive it works fine and you can drive around everywhere and transmission will work perfectly going through all the gears. it's just the very first time that you go through the gears. Or does it usually do this first before going out completely?

Mine required at start up to be shifted into Low first, because D would be equal to neutral, then I could shift to 2,3, or 4/D manually, and it would drive normal until shutoff ... yours may be different or just 1/2 broke.

also, mine would jump out of gear into neutral when driving aggressive (shift lever would read D) - that is - when flooring it at low speed or trying to pass on the highway , and I'd have to go back to L and start again.

I drove mine for about 2 weeks without any worse for wear.
