Vent Setting: Floor vs Defrost/Floor split

Hi all,

Tried searching for this but no luck, could also be lack of me understanding what words to search for.

Anyway, when selecting between Floor and Defrost / Floor split for the vent settings, does anyone notice any real difference? I noticed just a slight increase in air flow to the floor vents when selecting Floor only. I'd say the defrost vents are still 40% active. The amount of noise from the defrost vents is hardly decreased too when selecting just the Floor from the Defrost/Floor split. Is it designed to work this way?

In my 2015 - Chevy 1500 when I select floor only there is very little air coming out of the vent. Almost zero out of the defrost.

Thanks. Next time I'm at the dealer I'll have to have them check it out. I'll see if I can check a truck on the lot if they tell me it's normal. It doesn't necessarily bother me, just seems odd.

I tried it this morning. With the fan on full blast the fan is indeed loud and the sounds the same as the defroster, but I only had air coming out of the floor vents and decent amount of it too. I don't think the noise is actually the fan though, I think it's the air hitting the piece that deflects it up/down. 2015 Sierra SLT

Thanks for trying! I agree with you on the sound, that makes sense. Still, mine doesn't seem to be functioning right as you confirmed that a vast amount of air is coming from the floor.

can you hear any of the actuators closing or opening ducts? something might be stuck open/closed. maybe a good "smack" on the dash would free it.

I can hear them moving, although I am not sure if its completing its cycle to the new position when I select Floor only. I'm a little nervous to smack any piece of the interior in my truck, I've had already had the dealer fix a couple rattles and still more are coming out, without any help from me smacking things lol.

Mine acts similarly. When in floor only I'll get a fair amount of air coming through the defrost vents.

Huh, interesting, so unlike novembervictors truck, yours is acting similar to mine. I wonder which way GM intended it to be lol? :dunno:
