DQ3 Tow mirrors not folding in cold

Any way to fix or make the mirrors power fold in the cold? Went to the car wash yesterday and have to put the mirrors in or they get hit...took a good 20 minutes to get BOTH of them to fold. Passenger side gave me the most trouble.

 

It's a big truck being Double cab with a long bed so it just fits.. wanted to get the salt off the under carriage....temp is in the low 20's here not going to wash myself.

Same exact problem... No fix that I know of. Also have memory mirrors that change positions randomly upon start up. Also only on passenger side.

Got down to 29 here didn't have an issue. Not to say I won't if it gets colder.

Going down to -29C here tonight. I dont fold my mirrors when it is cold out. Plastic doesnt like cold

Same reason you don't use your power windows when they're iced up.

 

BTW that's -20 in "real degrees" LOL.

I agree 100%...only folded them for the car wash to remove the salt from the underside. One is faster then the other when they finally BOTH went in together. Waiting for the GM service rep to come to work...out sick I think, to see what can be done to help them fold. GM must of weather tested them before putting them into service right?

Used mine in -2F no issues but it wasn't iced up and the truck is only weeks old. I have to fold to get it in my garage.

Been near zero here a few times and no problem. I fold them in every night pulling in the garage. The only trouble I had was trying to fold them back out while driving down the highway after folding them in by accident. Is there any ice on them when you guys have trouble or just cold?

I guess I spoke to soon Last night my driver side mirror didn't want fold all the way. Went half way and stopped....it wasn't even that cold, maybe 36F pushed the button again and it folded fine. Its possible it got water in somewhere. We had some warm weather and rain (high 40s) and now the temp dropped. We'll see what happens when I pull it out later today.

 

I assume these mirrors can't be folded manually without damage?

mine sometimes don't work right at 10-20 degrees F, so I tend to leave them alone until it warms up some

If I go thru the wash the best way to fix this is fold them in and out by hand, that will free them. Don't use the motor, you will burn it out forcing it back and forth.

Didn't know they moved manually...will do that next time.

Resetting the Power Folding Mirrors

Reset the power folding mirrors if:

. The mirrors are accidentally obstructed while folding.

. They are accidentally manually folded/unfolded.

. The mirrors will not stay in the unfolded position.

. The mirrors vibrate at normal driving speeds.

Manually fold both mirrors if they are out of sync.

Fold and unfold the mirrors three times using the mirror controls to reset them to their normal position.

A popping noise may be heard. This sound is normal after a manual folding operation.

Thanks I am going to try that as my driver side mirror is always lagging behind the passenger side.
