Has anyone removed a call the console yet? Can it be done without removing both seats? I assume it could be done in under an hour, probably take me longer to clean all my crap out of it

So has anyone done just a sub swap?

I have enough in my spare pile to make this happen, just not sure it's worth it, will still be a single 6.5 and I'm sure it will need more power than the bose amp has. One of these days when it's nicer I'll tear into the console and see what I find. I know others have added smaller subs in this location to the non Bose trucks.

What about putting a bigger sub in that same location? Also a lot of people have suggested there's a lot of space in that center console area. I wonder why nobody has just swapped the sub out, mounted an amp inside the console as well, then tapped either the existing sub line for the bose or a speaker line. This way you could have the speakers run off the bose amp and the sub run off its own?

Until I pull the console I can't say that this is possible without loosing storage. My guess would be that you would be hard pressed to get much over 0.5cf enclosure volume making too small of an airspace for most subs. The Bose enclosure is probably designed to use every bit of available space, probably wisest to try and reuse.

The linked article claims there was plenty of room inside the console for an enlosure. But he was also modifying the existing storage bins at the same time, so it wasnt clear to me if he meant plenty of space with or without the existing storage

The Bose sub looks to be 4-6". You could upgrade it to something like a silver flute 6" subwoofer and put in more power.

I picked up this speaker box and am throwing in a 10" sub and amp I already have.

Throwing that into the console?

No. The box goes under the rear passenger seat. You could build a small ported box to fit in the Bose space and have a side firing Arc Audio 8". Although sealed boxes work better for small spaces.

I doubt the silver flute sub would make much difference over the factory Bose as it is really designed more for mid bass not subwoofer duties.

True. One would probably be better off just shooting more power into the bose if it could handle it.

Kicker, JL and RE as well as others I am sure, make true 6.5" sub woofers. I had a pair of elemental designs 6.5 a while back and was very impressed by them. Still have one sitting around that I could throw in, just need to pick up a smaller amp that I could easily hide.

This would be interesting if you could fit it all in the console or if you ran it behind the second seat we have? It would make it easier to tap the sub output from the bose amp maybe?

Amp would most likely need to be behind rear seat unless I could find space under dash. Highly doubt there is any extra room to speak of in the console.

Could try something like this. I had 2 of these little guys in a exotic car and they shook the car pretty good with only 100w going to them. Single voice coil but I do know of a guy that swapped the bose out from under the console of his 16 denali with one of these and he said it was night and day difference. Little pricey though. Attached the pdf to for dimensions.
