Replacing Bose Subwoofer

2016 LTZ with Bucket seats and Bose system. I am quite underwhelmed with the performance of the Sub. Sounds like the Kicker setup is a good option but I'm not ready to give up that floor space in the back yet. I was wondering about replacing the Bose Sub with a JL Audio 6W3V3-4 - using the stock enclosure. I'm guessing but not certain that the stock sub is also 6.5"? Would that alone make a noticeable difference or would I want to replace the sub amp as well. If so, would I just tap into a speaker line for the input or??? does anyone know the volume of the stock enclosure?

I'm not looking to rattle the windows, just would like to be able to feel a little bass!

Following, I was looking to do the same, but I am sure a secondary amp would be necessary. Not a huge deal but don't really want to pull console to investigate as this is my daily driver and work truck. I looked for take out enclosures on eBay but couldn't bring myself order one.

That would be a great idea.. probly sound better... but one problem.. I think the bose is set at 3 ohm

Right, I think it is 3 Ohm or something odd. So that would mean I couldn't use the stock amp for the new sub which brings up a number of new questions. I am fine with that as I am sure a new amp will be better and I like the idea of being able to fine tune the sub!

1. Is there a separate amp for the Sub and if so where is it located - I know there is at least one behind the back seats, not sure if that is for the door speakers or both or??

2. Assuming there is a separate amp for the Sub, could I feed my new amp from the same line that feeds the current sub amp? I thought I remember reading that it is a weird encoded signal that goes to the amps in the Bose systems making it impossible to drop in a new amp.

3. Assuming the answer to #2 is No, would I then just feed the new sub off of one of the speaker wires? I wondered if this would be a full range signal but that is how the Kicker back seat sub setup gets its signal so it must be.

I vote give it a shot and let everyone know! Start with the sub replacement. Then if it's not noticeable swap the amp. I'd love to see someone install something like alpines zero space sub.

You should be able to steal signal from the current sub power, the signal is "encoded" before it is amplified. I'm sure the factory amp power to the sub is much lower than you would want anyhow.

I looked into the alpine zero space but they are crazy expensive.

This might help you out...

These guys did an entire system, but you might be able to use the info to replace your sub.

Thanks for that link - pretty amazing build!! I don't think I will be using the $1200 sub though!! but good to see it's possible to get an 8" in there!

Since my truck didn't have the bose system, I actually built a custom enclosure to put a 6.5 sub in my center console. Wasn't to bad, also installed a Kenmore compact amp

I've been considering adding JL Audio's CP106LG Microsub in my console where the stock Bose sub would be. I measured inside when I was installing my console and it appeared it would fit, and the box measurements in the link above support that.

I had JL's 8" version in my 01 Tahoe in the factory rear location and it sounded really good. I've always had JL subs in all my vehicles though, really love the sound they produce. I'm planning on using the same 8" in my truck, just got to figure out a location, don't really want to take up space under the rear seat. I want to use the under seat storage under the front jumper seat.

That looks like a good location to me as well. Right in that middle space I don't currently use. When my truck gets a little older I might do something like this. But for now I am just rockin factory non Bose system.

Same here, it's hard cutting stuff up in such a new truck. But that's part of customizing. :) Probably one of the main reasons I'm still rockin the factory non Bose system also... well that and no money. LOL
