Hi all

I know its a long shot, but here we go.

Just bought a new (4weeks old) All Terrain and the steering assist warning has come on! So sent it back to dealer who has kept it for diagnosis.

my question is... should they supply a courtesy car? They said they didnt have any.

Now, to make matters worse I am an English bloke living in Mexico.

Any thoughts, Cheers.

In the USA yes they are required to provide a loaner, you will have to see what the warranty coverage is for Mexico to see if that is a provided and covered option for a dealer loaner while your vehicle is out of service.

No they are not required, but they sure as heck better if they want to keep you as a customer.

Correct, loaners are not required per GM by any means in regards to warranty or anything. Loaner vehicles are commonly offered at many dealerships, but whether or not the specific dealer offers one is completely at the dealer's discretion. I am a finance manager at a Chevy dealership here in OK, and the owner of our dealership quit offering loaner vehicles in the last 2 years due to liability, risk, and cost-cutting as we are a low volume dealership as it is.

I think if they keep your vehicle overnight or longer and it's under the 3year 36,000 warranty they are required to.

We had this discussion awhile back. No dealer is required to provide a loaner. Even if your vehicle is under warranty. Most will, but we have seen cases where there were no rentals available, the dealer does not keep any loaner fleet, and they were not going to take a new or used car off of the sales lot. Somewhere in writing it says that it is up to each dealer.

Again, a dealer would be STUPID to not take care of their customers, but it has been known to happen.

Have you discussed them giving you a new truck?

I guess I am going to have to check my warranty booklet over, years ago it was in the warranty booklet as to what the loaner coverage requirement is, not determined by the dealer but is by government regulations.
