Drilling Through Floor

I have a 2017 Sierra with a split bench with under seat console. Just bought a Lock'er Down console safe and rather than mounting with small screws through the plastic sides of the console, I want to run a 1/2 " bolt straight down through the floorest. Plan on a rubber washer and RTV on the exterior. Has anyone else done something similar? Any specific issues encountered? Thanks.

Just make sure where you drill nothing is on the other side, seal it up and should be good.

Just remember you are going to be in the tunnel with bad line of site for the backside nut, washer/rubber washer.

 

I would do 2 bolts because then it can be pulled taught evenly for the install. Secondly, a single bolt allows thief to get enough leverage to lift at the opposite edge and work toward tearing the sheet metal at the single bolt location. Much harder if secured at opposite ends/2 locations.

Thanks much. The hidden wire thing was my biggest concern and the dealership wasn't much help with info about a good spot to drill. I can see the underside but there is a slight gap under the console that might hide something.

What about looking into alarm reinforcement? I am picturing a lot damage before the thief discovers the bolts through the floor! In a related story, I have a friend who had his car broken into a couple of times resulting in broken windows, glove box and console. He still uses the same parkade but now leaves his door unlocked and a little spare change in view. The coins have disappeared on occasion but no physical damage to the vehicle. I am not suggesting you leave your truck unlocked but you may find other ways to secure your treasure. A trip wire connected to a train horn, for example, might cause a burglar to re-think his plan!
