I thought I red on here that someone has a tune for the 8 spd, maybe like hypertech or diablo....??

Just googled, diablo and superchips advertise 8 speed tuning.

Not for a 2017.

EFI Live can tune 2017 engine

HPTuners can tune 2017 engine and trans.

As far as I know, no other tuners out there yet that will work on a 2017 year.

I just started on the tuning for my 2017 Silverado(5.3 not 6.2), and it is 4 credits for the PCM and if you have an 8 speed it is an extra 4 credits for the TCM and they have to unlock the TCM at HP Tuners before you can tune it which is an additional charge also. If you have a 6 speed there is no extra cost or unlocking needed to tune that TCM. We had to transmit the vin and the first read to HP Tuners to be added to there data base before being able to tune it. That being said the first read and write of the tune on the 2017s you have to be connected to the internet via wifi(hotspot). After that you do not need to be connected to the internet to upload tune files as long as its the same computer you used initially. We just used my trucks wifi and it worked no problem. These new PCMs are very complex thus the extra cost to tune them. My tuner Klug Performance uses HP Tuners exclusively.

I was also trying to find someone that can tune the transmission of a 2017 GMC Sierra 6.2L with the 8-speed transmission, and was running into a brick wall everywhere I went :banghead: . Even Black Bear Performance emailed me back and said that they could NOT do it. HP Tuners could do some stuff, but even they weren't able to access everything in the transmission.

Then a miracle happened. Chuck Mosello of Corvettes of Westchester told me that just today he has figured out and can now tune a 2017 8-speed transmission!

I was going to try and find a 2016 Sierra because no one could tune a 2017, but now I'm all set to buy a new 2017. Chuck can tune the engine, the transmission, and install CoW Booster using EFILive and AutoCal.

I've been reading this forum for quite some time, but never created an account or made a post. I figured this news was pretty important, so here you go - my first post

Sorry to burst bubbles, but if there are claims that EFILive and AutoCals are being used to tune the 2017+ 8 speeds, they are bogus. The T87A controller (used on 2017+ 8 speeds) has to be physically disassembled and modified at the hardware level to be able to be tuned outside of GM.

Specifically from EFILive as of 10 minutes ago:

No we don't and it has not been not looked at since we last spoke and (you won't like this) is probably not going to be, I guess someone has a good insider at GM if they can tune them without pulling the TCM apart.
If they are claiming they are tuning them with EFILive that is BS.

Guys, just go straight to the source and contact Chuck at www.corvettes-of-westchester.com. He'll actually take your call. He talked to me twice already for almost an hour each time.

He's one the top Corvette tuners, and almost everything he does can transfer to our trucks. Do a little background check on him by looking him up in the corvette forum https://www.corvetteforum.com/. Especially look at his proprietary product called the CoW Booster (CoW is for Corvettes of Westchester). In addition to the full engine and transmission tune, he adds on the CoW Booster. This product simply makes the accelerator more responsive so it opens the throttle much more as you push on the pedal.

I didn't think of checking the corvette forums for my truck needs until another member suggested him in some other thread I was reading. It makes perfect sense though.

Just contact him. You'll waste more time asking other tuners why Chuck can't tune a 2017 8-speed than just calling him in the first place. And so what if others say that someone cannot do it. What does that mean, that no one can be the first to be able to do anything ever?

I absolutely will be using Chuck to do a full engine, trans, and CoW Booster tune when I buy my 6.2L Sierra during the 4th of July sales coming up.

I do hate the sales horseshit and lack of transparency though. Guy has the business mentality of a used car salesmen in 1993.

Sounds super fishy, and I'm well aware of who he is on corvette forums.

I do agree that his advertisements are cheesy, but he's not slimy like a used cars salesman. Sure, he could do himself a favor and update the look of his posts. However, when people are GOOD AT THEIR ACTUAL JOB, one shouldn't care about their lack of advertisement/marketing/webpage aesthetics. It's all about the end product. For instance, I'm a high school math teacher that's getting close to 40 years old now. Some of the newer hires definitely make me look archaic when it comes to their use of social media to connect and present information to their students. Does that mean they supply a better end product - a deeper knowledge of Calc or Stats? Nope.

Also consider this...he's obviously an established and well-respected tuner. He wouldn't make a claim that he can do something when he cannot. What's the gain when it could ruin his career and livelihood?

If you're unsure about what he's doing or is able to do, call him up. He's already tuned the 2017 transmission of a corvette (on 6/8/17). I love the speculation and suspicion we all have, though. It's what makes us (and tuners) do more research and development in our quest for the perfect build.

What was not able to be tuned with Hptuners in the trans. I just sent my TCM out to them and assumed they could acess everything they needed to.

As I understand it from Corvettes of Westchester, once you get the TCM back from HPtuners, you will not be able to EFILive AutoCal it. Chuck is able to have you drive your truck in real-world conditions and make constant tuning changes until everything is dialed in perfectly to your needs. It's the old "don't just do a dyno tune that is based off of some single gear WOT pulls with a fan blowing into your grill, but instead tune the car/truck to run perfectly for your everyday driving (which is not a drag race every time you move from a stopped position).

That is exactly what I'm having done by Doug at East Coast Superchargers in Cream Ridge, NJ.

It is not practical on a daily driver to dyno. Not to mention the possibility a drive shaft flying apart. Some places wont even let a truck on their dyno.

Here is what I know. EFI Live will work with no problem once you pull the stock file off the ECU or TCU you can use whatever program you want. hell even excel spreadsheet program. The problem is getting the autorization to get in to read and flash.

That is incorrect. EFILive will only save a file in its own proprietary format once it has been read out or edited with EFILive software. Excel is only used as a means to manipulate table data that is copied from the tune file using EFILive's tune tool.

The 2017 T87A controller utilizes a digital signature security procedure when attempting to flash. This is something that can *only* be generated by GM. HPTuners is able to "unlock" a TCM by physically disassembling it to make hardware changes (likely soldering in a jumper wire as has been done with diesel trucks in the past).

At the onset of this topic, I emailed EFILive's head engineer directly and received the response quoted above. Further, in response to Chuck's posting, he writes:

Oh dear, what a worry. I can assure you the flash process is very different on the T87A with a very large digital signature required to be sent with every calibration segment, none of that infrastructure is in our software at the moment

and then followed up with:

It'll obviously come back to bite him as it isn't true, we can't do them.

I would hate to see somebody spend money on a tune here, thinking they are going to get 8 speed tuning, only to find that it is a marketing gimmick or that they are being lied to. It would be very easy to make you *think* you were flashing in your transmission by just labeling a copy of your engine tune file as "TCM Tune" or something like that. How would you know that you weren't flashing the TCM?
