Valves @ 40,000 miles

I started installing my 6.2 intake manifold and throttle body and decided to snap some pictures of my valves. I bought the truck used with 29,000 miles on it and put a catch can on it that week. I have also done the crc intake valve cleaning twice. Cylinders 3 & 4 are much worse than the rest.

I'm wondering why #3 & #4 are so much worse than the rest of them. I may be installing a methanol injection kit after I put my cam in to keep things clean.

Thanks for the photos appreciate it! It sucks as just a few years ago we all were getting used to not even looking/thinking about about engine maintenance until approaching 100K........Now it's like "OK" plugs are junk at 50K as with valves and rings are carbon fused in place sweet! Soon I will be adding -5W 10 into crankcase chuckling because I have been conditioned to be a sheep! I don't know brother? Except GDI should be sold with.....You really need to keep on this car because it will bite in the ass sooner than later.........But no! Nobody says anything to the buyer and we all learn the hard way

I don't know the 6.2L is that where it's routed back from PCV being spewed in that area and never makes it way to the outer cylinders? Not an expert here just a DODO on his first GDI.......Hey, thanks guys for welcoming me to the club!

Appreciate it "MOOK" your welcome to the "GDI" all you have to do is smile and open your wallet!

Correct. 3&4 are the 2nd row back so that's probably it. A good part of that buildup probably came prior to the catch can mod.

That's oil, water and fuel in that pic. The water and fuel will evaporate from the catch can when it gets hot enough, go through the intake and then will burn off during combustion. The oil is the killer.

OP, what kind of oil was used in that motor?

This is nothing new for me, my Audi / VW are DI and have been trying to use oils with good NOACK values.

Some of the VAG European engines now are getting both port and DI injectors to help with these issues.

I use pennzoil platinum. I had been using 0w20 but just recently switched to 5w30.
