HUD in Silverado/Sierra

Mini-B cables came in today.

Unfortunately, I don't have the HUD, or my cluster back, so I have nothing to plug them in to yet. Thanks to cmatt's pics, I believe that they are the correct cables.

I've been on the hunt (helping cmatt) locate connectors for this project. I myself have been looking for connectors on a different project. @stereojnky and @cmatt, are there any other connectors you have yet to source or find? It seems that the Upfitter manual doesn't disclose the manufacture of the connectors listed and unless you can find the "service connector" part #, its tough to find the bare connector direct from the manufacture.

Between Molex, JST, Tyco, Delphi, Yazaki, Kaizen, and the series within each Manufacture, they sure don't make it easy to find.

I think that's everything...USB cable b/t the cluster and HUD, HUD connector and switch connector. I'm working on the terminals now. Found the ones for the switch and HUD connector, but can't find the one (based on the service p/n in the upfitter manual) that goes in location 21 on the cluster connector (Mouser doesn't have any in stock).

I should have the USB cable Tuesday. I'll make sure it fits the HUD (my cluster made it to Chris to program today) and post pics.

You referring to the 32 Pin cluster connector? If so, keep in mind that there are variants in terminals and can be based on wire size accommodations. If this is the connector you're trying to find terminals for, it's part # 928999-5. Sometimes Mouser will have an "LP" at the end of the part indicating "loose piece" rather than a reel or a minimum buy count. Also, they can come in Tin, Copper and gold (each with a varying part #). I have contacted Mouser and have asked for an equivalent part to the one that is on back order.

If terminal part # 928999-5 is what you're looking for, this terminal is gold. Lol. Tin is 928999-1, Silver is 928999-6. Looks like 928999-1 has alternative packaging (cut strip). Minimum is 100. If you need 32 per connector, this might not be bad. $0.158 per = $15.80 for 100 pieces.

Problem is, I only need one terminal. It goes in position 21 on the connector. It's the data bus wire that goes to the HUD connector.

Wonder if the terminal would be too large for the space in the connector due to it accommodating a larger wire?

It should fit. You might have to strip more wire and fold it over to make up the space before crimping. The difference in the terminal between 0.25-0.50 & 0.50-0.75 is very minimal. Especially in that connector. If you were working on a smaller connector (like the rear view mirror connector), you might have a tight fit.

The wiring b/t the cluster and HUD and the wiring to the switch.

From the HUD:

1 wire goes to the cluster

2 wires go to the switch

1 to ground

1 to + voltage

From the switch:

2 go to the HUD

1 to ground

1 for the LED backlight dimmer

I'm confident I've got the correct switch connector terminal ordered. I believe the HUD connector takes the same. @pgamboa, can you confirm?

Yep. I'll look into it. I've found that most 0.64 series terminals are the same. But let go back to my drawings.

The way I find these is by looking up manufacture data sheets/drawings. They typically disclose all part # variants.

The HUD Connector (Heads Up Display X1) shows SAIT-A03T-M064 for he female connector. The male terminal (if needed), appears to be SNAC3W-A021T-0.64.

These are the most common terminals by JST for these 0.64 series connectors. Doesn't help that the connector manufacture is different than the terminal manufacture.

Also - the (4) Pin HUD Switch doesn't show a service terminal part #, but when you look up AIT-II Connectors, they'll list the same terminal part # SAIT-A03T-M064 for this connector.

So the only different terminal at this point, appears to be the cluster connector.
