Will these trucks ever be fully 'hacked'?

Thinking out 5 years after warranties are long gone. Will there be aftermarket scanners/programmers to allow us to work on our trucks? I liked being able to fix things myself on my 04. Saved me a ton of money. If I could buy something that could access the computer and do everything GM techs can do, I would probably pay several hundered to a thousand dollars to have that capability.

Anything that you could possibly want to do can be done right now. I'm in the process of adding a HUD to mine.

This simple post was very helpful as I didn't need to do anything requiring tech ii with my old truck. I did some reading on the tech ii, and it sounds like that phased out around 2013. Now the interface is via MDI, more specifically MDI II beginning in 2016. Still doing some research on what can be done with MDI and what requires additional subscriptions or modules. Sounds like the acdelco subscription may be required and short duration subscriptions may be available.

The latest interface is GDS2 and it's completely web based through GM's servers. You need a GM login to access it, the license last 30 days at a time.

What all can EFI live see on our trucks? I remember on my 04 Tahoe, Justin from BBP could see the codes that only a Tech II could see.
