You are confusing possible with practical. All you need is a donor truck and BCM reprogramming. If you can't do it yourself, there are people offering this service out there for a fee. You don't have to drop the 5 grand if you can write and program the BCM yourself. You can do it for the cost of the donor truck parts.

Maybe you can install the OEM switch and panel and maybe even program the BCM to recognize it.......but no way to get full OEM electronic capability for digital readout in the DIC and interface with the steering wheel controls in addition to the panel switch and control buttons. And at $275 added to the MSRP sticker, no reason not to get it on a new truck if you even suspect one day you will tow something. Was a positive item when I traded the Avy that helped me get top dollar for the trade.

You also won't get the integration with the ABS system which is used if the truck senses trailer sway.

This. It is what I did. I will likely never use it, as my trailer doesn't have brakes, but I didn't want the "empty" spot there to remind me I could have had it if I ended up having to get a trailer with brakes for some new toy to haul around. So the $200 was nothing on the $55K price.

The only option I didn't order was the rear entertainment system. Would never use it, but then, it was $2000 instead of $200. :)

It is even more important when towing a trailer that doesn't have electric brakes. As previous poster mentioned, and I neglected to mention, the OEM trailer braking package interfaces with your antilock brake system and contains additional software enhancing the stock vehicle's anti-skid software to provide the more important trailer anti-sway function.

Is it possible to add the factory integrated brake controller to a 2017 Silverado LTZ?

Thanks!

Lets make this easy. You can't add the factory brake controller. Does not plug and play. Grab a nice aftermarket one.

We need to figure out a way to wire the flush factory control head into an aftermarket controller that would be installed out of site leaving you with a flush factory look. If we found the pinout to the factory plug and then opened up the board on an aftermarket controller and soldered in the correct inputs it should work shouldn't it?

Its sad to say that all the GM engineers and technicians can not figure out how to add a factory trailer brake controller to an existing vehicle.

I have the dash switch and pigtail (wiring harness).

GM says "it can't be done"!

Bull crap! If its physically there from the factory why can't GM mirror the parts and procedure??

Yes yes. I think that would work.

Wonder how to find the information that is needed?

GM would make a killing of they would make a factory aftermarket controller.

They need to get smart and not roll over and play dead with "Cant be done"!

The only other answer is to find an used truck with the "factory" controller already there.

I am sure not going to buy a NEW truck knowing that there my be other things that "Can't be done"!

    • Even tougher is the 5.0 / 302. That's what this one has.    https://postimg.cc/Z9XRrCSg   https://postimg.cc/4n3F3yzY   Just realized I had the airbox removed in the engine pic, lol.
    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
