Radio Upgrade Options

To start out My truck is a base model with a IO3 Radio No backup camera, no color DIC, no steering wheel controls and no Bluetooth.

Here is what I must have

-Bluetooth Calling and music streaming

-ability to add backup camera

Android auto would be great but I dont need it, also dont care about steering wheel controls as it appears too expensive for me to retrofit them and the color DIC.

What are my options, I have not seen much aftermarket the 10in alpine is cool but the 4k price is not, I also don't know much about oem retrofits from mvi etc.

Yea that was me. I went this route http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/196450-upgrade-io3-io4-and-even-io5-radio/page-2

I got the radio from here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWPG4AD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Everything is plug and play, in order to get a backup camera to work, you will need one with an aux cord.

Does this headunit have Bluetooth ? How's it working for you?

I also am curious also as several reviewers said it had problems with freezing. I also have been looking at the Pioneer avh-4100nex but am somewhat unsure about having to cut out parts of the dash to install it and, loosing the ability to return to stock. I also am curious if anyone on here has done the MVI io3 to io5/io6 conversion

I've been wanting to upgrade my i03 as well, just unsure really. But the 10 inch screen looks nice , just not sure about the lag/ freeze . And the longevity of the headunit.

It has Bluetooth, WiFi,mirror casting, navigation and plays dvd. Its all plug and play with no spicing wires and it looks like a factory unit. Mine has not froze or lagged or black screened since a got it a 6 months ago. A Lot of people are complaining that their original oem head unit is causing problems like lagging/freezing and black screen. My original oem head unit froze and had a back screen a bunch of times so I bought this:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWPG4AD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

No matter what radio you get with there is a chance that it will have a problem down the road(its like that for any technology you purchase whether its headphones or a computer)so I just didnt want to pay $1300+ for a new radio the could potentially have a problem. Either way if it does have problems I would rather lose $480 bucks than $1600 for an oem integration from MVI or $3000 for a pioneer one, plus amazon is pretty amazing at returns and refunds so you could get your $480 bucks back. Thats why I went that route.

The radio doesnt really come with any instructions so a lot of people that have installed the radio probably installed it incorrectly. Also yes it is android but in the manual it states that some apps will not work properly with the device which can cause freezing. One of the reviews said his froze while he was driving a while and in the picture the navigation he had on it was not the original one which might have caused the device to freeze.

Look at the Pioneer AVIC8200NEX. About $1000. Does all you want and more. You can see codes and clear them too from your unit. It even has a built in bypass to watch videos (for your passengers) while in motion (up to you if you think its a good thing).

if you install that pioneer radio he was talking about, yes you will probably have to splice into the factory harness
