Synthetic Oil

The API licensing system is a voluntary certification that sets minimum quality standards, which is important. Because it is a standard, licensing limits the flexibility to quickly adopt new technologies that can improve protection.

Any synth. oil you want to use is good as long as it has a API certification on the label.

No API certification then it's overpriced BS snake oil in my book as there is no way to verify it meets standards like SJ or SN

Dexos is just a minimum synth. oil rating that gives GM a slice of the pie.

Think there is a lot of truth to that. Even GM put out a TB that synthetic oil that meets SN RC and ILSAC GF-5 can be used in place of dexos1. That bulletin is a couple of years old now and did specifically address 0w20. I just use a high quality synthetic that meets SN RC and ILSAC GF-5 and change oil in spring and fall. 5w30 in the fall, 10w30 in the spring. My 2006 Cadillac CTS 3.6, my previous 2013 1500 5.3, and now my 2015 2500 6.0. All get the same oil, changed at the same interval. I take that back.... the CTS gets a conventional Pennzoil 10w30 year round that meets the above specs and GM 6094M. GM specified M1 5w30, but using the 10w30 I have had fewer issues with that LY7 3.6 than most other users.

Schaeffer 9000 oil, Wix filter

I second that motion. Nothing but Schaeffers for me, but I use Baldwin filters. Baldwin and Wix are both top-of-the-line. AC Delcos are good, too.
