Leaking radiator anti-freeze smell

I have a 2014 sierra 1500 all terrain with 41k miles on the clock. I am aware of the TSB for the excessive cycling of the thermostat and I was just told by my dealer, Stephen Cadillac GMC in Bristol Connecticut, that "GM doesn't cover this anymore under the powertrain warranty."

 

Can someone confirm if gm stopped covering this or if my dealer is taking me for a ride?

I had that problem with my 2015 and they told me it was covered under the 3 yrs/36,000 bumper to bumper warranty. Cooling system is not considered part of the powertrain.

 

On mine they replaced the 'stat + housing and a new radiator.

I've read about guys in here having it replaced under their powertrain after the 3yr expired.

 

I personally can't understand how the cooling system for the engine isn't a powertrain item but who am I to use common sense....

ENGINE

All internally lubricated parts, engine oil, cooling hoses and lines. Also included are all actuators and electrical components internal to the engine, cylinder head, block, timing gears, timing chain, timing cover, oil pump/oil pump housing, OHC carriers, valve covers, oil pan, seals, gaskets, turbocharger, supercharger and all internal lubricated parts as well as manifolds, flywheel, water pump, harmonic balancer and engine mount. Timing belts are covered until the first scheduled maintenance interval. Exclusions: Excluded from the powertrain coverage are sensors, wiring, connectors, engine radiator, coolant hoses, coolant, and heater core. Coverage on the engine cooling system begins at the inlet to the water pump and ends with the thermostat housing and/or outlet that attaches to the return hose. Also excluded is the starter motor, entire pressurized fuel system (in-tank fuel pump, pressure lines, fuel rail(s), regulator, injectors, and return line) as well as the Engine/Powertrain Control Module and/or module programming.

Had mine done few thousand ago, I'm at 76k currently though. Wasn't covered under B2B warranty but glad I got the extended warranty, $100 deductible and I was out of there.

 

They replaced the radiator, thermostat, tstat housing, and coolant.

 

I noticed when I tow it tends to get a little hotter than before they did the work on it, but not a big deal, I run the piss out of it regardless

Just got a call back. Suddenly after "making a call" they noticed I had the engine that fit the TSB and suddenly they saw gm extended the coverage for this to the 5yr/100,000 miles. I have to pay $105 which is way better they the entire bill.

 

It's sad I have to argue to get stuff covered on a 50k truck

Just got a call back. Suddenly after "making a call" they noticed I had the engine that fit the TSB and suddenly they saw gm extended the coverage for this to the 5yr/100,000 miles. I have to pay $105 which is way better they the entire bill.

 

It's sad I have to argue to get stuff covered on a 50k truck

Stick to terryville Chevrolet.

My 17 does sometime run a touch above 210 but drops back down shortly im guessing it just how they had the thermostat set up and how it cycles only notice it running down the highway stays right at 210 driving in town. My 14 stayed at 210 and didn't ever budge except going up pikes peak the only time i ever seen it run higher.

They are NOT running at 210 - that's just the gauge - much closer to 180 when the gauge reads 210 - For accurate temps get an engine monitor like DashHawk..........

I have a 2018, 80 thousand highway miles, just driving no towing. Chevy Silverado. Just got it back do to a bad oil pump 1800 dealership ate five big freaking deal!!! We get it home something is leaking on our driveway. Not oil so we think it’s the air conditioning. A couple days go by my husband notices a radiator smell. Take it back radiator has a leak they say 1200!!! If gm does not step up to the plate I am done. Called two independent auto repair companies, both asked if I had been in a accident. Said it was extremely unusual that a 2018 would be leaking without something happening. Buyer beware!!!! I see a lot of thing going wrong when I look on line between 2014/2018

Which TSB are you referring to? What year was the truck? My 17 Sierra is leaking now, out of BTB warranty, and they want $1100 to fix.
