The best you can do is run a TOP TIER™ fuel like GM recommends. As well as get it from a station that has a high turn over. That way you know the fuel is always fresh and shouldn't have any junk in the tanks that could possibly get pumped up. Not likely these days but it still happens especially with older stations with old tanks in the ground.

Personally I think all of this stuff is latter day snake oil.

 

At one of those quickie oil change places they tried to sell me some that would "increase my mileage up to 3%" and was pink, to promote breast cancer awareness.

 

On all the boating forums the Seafoam mantra is chanted, yet outboard motors seem to just go on working year after year without it as well.

Personally I disagree.

From first hand experience, Sea Foam works as a fuel system cleaner and stabilizer. I have used it in everything I own for years. Is less expensive than the other fuel stabilizers and fuel treatments. About $7 at Walmart.

 

Using Sea Foam I have solved poor performance, rough idle, and poor starting. My latest experience was a 2000 van with a V6. Over heard a van owner complaining about his van running poorly in our local, small town, family owned super market.. I asked a few questions and told him I may be able to help. He had been using 85 octane to save a few bucks. 85 octane is the low grade here in Colorado. 2 tanks of gas with a can of Sea Foam in each and problem fixed. I know this because I ran into him again in the super market.

 

IMO most issues, especially with yard equipment and outboards is them sitting for extended periods of time with fuel in them or poor maintenance.

I have never had any negative effects from using Sea Foam.

In the fuel system or the crankcase to clean/remove sludge in poorly maintained engines.

I am a BG guy! Why they simply work hands down better than anything. For GDI's guys you should be dumping this stuff in your vehicle! If interested I have UOA's of it.........anybody have questions using it just ask me. I don't advocate anything other than dumping break in engine oil at 1000 miles and using BG products on GDI's that is all...............

Yup, that is the only problem with em....even harder to catch a deal on 44K because it's a quality product!

Anybody here routinely run seafoam in the gas tank or the crankcase?

During the winter months I add a can to the fuel tank say twice a season.
