Engine Additives

Just purchased a 2014 Sierra Denali and it runs just fine. I'm coming up on my first fill up and I was wondering if anyone in here has had any experience running fuel additives in these newer model trucks. It's a 6.2L V8 right at 100,XXX miles. I just wanted to make sure I'm taking the best possible care of it. It's my first 6.2 and first 4x4. TIA.

Impressive amount of miles already. Always fill at Chevron, and you will always have Techron in the gas already..........

Your truck could probably use a valve cleaning for all of the carbon build up/deposits, since these are DI engines that require actual maintenance.

Dealership does this for ~ $ 189.99 I believe.

Oh man thats cheap. Coming from a 2011 BMW x5 diesel.. walnut blasting for carbon cleaning is around $800

Yeah no walnut blasting that is very expensive; just MityVac/scrubbing/CRC style cleaning.

Anybody here routinely run seafoam in the gas tank or the crankcase?

At every 6K oil change I pour a can into my gas tank.

I dump a bottle of GM #88861011 Fuel system treatment plus. It helps keep the sending unit wiper clean amongst other things.

Same as the Chevron TECHRON, just a different sticker.

The best one I have found is called Engine Oil. I have added Engine Oil about every 7500 miles and the engine still runs fine.

YES!!! It's funny how the most obvious answer is usually the hardest to come by.

If it's a 2014 or newer with D.I., it is wasting $ to use ANY fuel additive as no fuel/additive touch the backsides of the intake valves with Direct Injection.....and using ANY solvent based upper induction cleaning that is used while the engine is running will and does cause scouring/scratches on the pistons and cylinder walls as the hard deposits break loose. Most are expelled out the exhaust, but smaller particles are forced between the cylinder wall and piston causing minor damage, and you don't want it in the oil to tear up the rest of the engine internals.

Anybody have a preference between seafoam and CRC?

I need to get the BG upper induction service performed, but none of the GM dealers around me even offer it.

GM still recommends the fuel additive if you aren't running TopTier gas, which isn't available here.

It at least helps keep the injectors clean if not the valves.

I added it for the injectors, not knowing what the previous owner did, figured $5 is worth it to clean injectors.

Ten years ago my brother went big into bio deisel, my moms one ton Ford had a fuel filter failure. By the time it was discovered two cylinders were down. Seafoam bought it back, and she still drives it.

Seafoam in the crank about 300 miles from my oil change, a can in the gas tank after an oil change and a can of CRC DI cleaner done every oil change.

Taking the 6.2 in for a oil change and valve cleaning today any tips on anything else I should have them do?

Let us know if you feel a difference after and if fuel economy/performance improves.

I took mine in at 96k miles and really didnt see any benefits after. I know the previous owner hasnt gotten it done prior to me buying it.

Ask if they can somehow take before and after pictures?
