Need help, racing a 5.3 vs 6.2

Recommended Posts

this is my first time doing this but me and some buddies are messing around and are racing my 2002 5.3 that is all stock other than cold air intake vs a 2015 sierra with the 6.2 (completely stock). I cant put on any expensive parts/bolt ons/programmers. i was wondering if there was a way for me to out do him. I have raced my truck many times but the 6.2 has never raced so i know i have a little advantage. we race a 8th mile from dead stop, go on flashlight. is there certain ways that shifting it out or putting on tow haul or anything that will help?

How big is your truck relative to his? IE, crew cab, box, etc?

Temporarily remove the passenger and rear seat, leave your spare tire and tailgate at home, etc. Anywhere you can take out weight, do it. Launch in 4hi for traction with a brake stand.

make sure the fuel tank is closer to E than F. Not dragging another 100 lbs of gasoline with you will also help.

I've owned or driven many 5.3 trucks and have owned 2 6.2's. Short of major engine mods I can't see what you could do to beat a 6.2 other then driver skill. The thing you have going for you is that his truck has a lot more torque management nannies then yours and you're only racing a short distance.
