I spotted a new recall out for my 2014 Sierra dated 06/29/17 when I randomly checked my VIN on the NHTSA's website for any open recalls. I think this only effects 2014 models, but I didn't find any additional info when searching around. Here's the info I found:

Jun 29,2017

Manufacturer Recall NumberN172085440

NHTSA Recall NumberAWAITING#

Recall StatusRecall Incomplete, remedy not yet available

SummaryGeneral Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2014 model year Chevrolet Silverado LD and GMC Sierra LD vehicles. These vehicles may experience a temporary loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist followed by a sudden return of EPS assist, particularly during low-speed turning maneuvers. The loss and sudden return of EPS assist typically happens within a 1 second period and is caused by an electrical/software issue.

Safety RiskIf EPS assist is lost and suddenly returned, the driver could lose temporary control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash.

RemedyDealers will perform a reflash of the EPS module software.

My 97' K1500 had the VSS (variable speed steering). It was a rolling death trap and so dangerous I wouldn't let anyone drive it. Not one TSB or recall was ever issued. Guess the death toll count wasn't high enough for GM to justify it...

Don't think anyone has died from the one being issued for the 2014.

Hmmm, if you ever start a band you have a great name for it, Rolling Death Trap.

One of my co-workers almost ran over someone in a parking lot when his truck took control away from him. Now my Sierra is sitting with a complete steering failure.

should we start a class action lawsuit?  It appears as though we easily meet the minimum number of people required.

No one wins in class action lawsuits except the lawyers.  Best you could probably hope for is an extended warranty on the part to 100K miles then you get the ol’ “Oh, you’re already past 100K?  So sorry.”

Is this different to the recall that came out for power steering software update? I thought that was a widespread recall for several year models.
