Flat tire question

When I worked at the Costco tire center, I used to find all sorts of strange items in flat tires. One person ran over a fork and it stuck in the tire. Also used to find animal bones. The strangest was probably the backing plate of a brake pad that had gone entirely into the tire.

I forgot to subtract mileage from winter tires. So I'm probably more like 7k miles on these tires. However I go to leave and notice the wrong tire was installed..... mine are Bridgestone AT and the computer said my vin was Bridgestone HL. It was honest mistake so now they are looking for the correct tire someplace. Always something with this truck. At least it's not costing me anything.

This is why people are (or should be) so wary of dealers. Can't even put the right tire on - or maybe the one they put on was an easier deal for them and they hoped you wouldn't notice.

Seriously?!?! They made an honest mistake and when they looked it up in the catalog by the VIN, they picked the wrong tire. Shite happens. They are human and so are you. Would the right thing to do be go out and check the truck? Sure. But again, shite happens. ANY shop/dealer could have made a mistake.

"Honest mistake"? Perhaps. "Shite happens"? Sure. But, if you want to see lots of honest mistakes and many examples of shite happening visit your dealer often.

I visit it 6 days a week. Sad that folks just generalize all dealers based on one experience. Out of all the 4000 GM dealers out there in the US, every single one is not a bad egg.

I know a few guys that work at the dealer, so I know they meant well and it would be unfair to say all dealers are bad because mine made an honest mistake. The tires look very similar so a quick glance you might not notice the slight difference in tread pattern. In fact the tires on my truck didn't even show up as an option for them to order. So I have my spare on now while they try to hunt down the correct 22 inch tire. Also I did show up without an appointment and they had a tech working on it right away. So thumbs up there.

I would not drive a three legged truck. Come up off that wallet and buy a new tire to go with the free replacement (tight wad)

So long story short 3 days later my dealer finally was able to locate the Bridgestone all terrain 22 inch OEM tire. Cost $425 for 1. Glad I bought the $299 tire/ wheel warranty. I'm also glad I didn't waste money on replacing 2 tires. I got out my tire depth gauge. New tire was 13/32 and the other three tires were just under the 12/32 line. That is pretty impressive that these tires have about 8,000 miles and only used 1/32 of tread depth.

 

When I was there my dealer also remembered about the buzzing noise in auto 4wd I mentioned, they ordered a new Transfer Case Control Unit and put it in too. No more buzzing noise in 4wd.

Probably coulda had a new, correct tire in 1-2 days from Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct for less than that price.

While I agree the tire was not $425, it would have probably been $270-280, plus the mounting and balance so I would say you got what you paid for $299. Probably saved a few bucks.
