Skeld do you have running boards on your truck? I have the black OEM ones and surprisingly they catch or deflect most of my rocks . I run gravel roads weekly and I noticed real quick the running boards curve in right behind the front tire and it deflects most all the rocks , road tar etc.

Yes I do. The problem is primarily behind the rear wheels, I haven't examined the rocker panels too much but I think the running boards are deflecting most of it there.

GM water based paint is a joke, my 2000 GMC has much better paint and less paint chips then my '14 GMC and has 4x the miles.

Got it yea mine has the clear film from the factory behind the rear wheels so I havent had a issue there.

I wonder why that would be? I have the rock guard area but as you can see, it doesn't slow things down much. Maybe it's a GMC thing?

Could be I got a clear film behind front and rear wheels. It was like that when purchased.

Correction, GM paint these days suck!

Always has. Look at the old GMs on the road. Clear coat and paint flaking off. Chrysler is worse.

Worse than Ford, Honda, Toyota, etc.? They all suffer paint peeling at some level...saw a Ford Edge the other day with half the roof down to primer.

I think there are four solutions: don't drive it, add a peel and stick gravel guard, linex/rhino-line the offensive areas, or don't worry about it.

I do the latter any more, my truck has suffered too many dings and dents that weren't my fault that I would go nuts trying to worry about a small chip here and there...I would like to Rhino line the next one though.

I bought my truck with 78k on it. Tons of chips on the front painted bumper and all the leading edges in the front.

Looks the first owner followed a leaking gravel truck for days.

Being a dark blue, you can see every one of them.

I'll put a lot more on it since i'll be driving a lot of gravel roads.

I bought a Dr. Colorchip kit to see if I can address some of the major ones. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Heres the link.

Have you got to try the kit yet?

I haven't noticed any chips on mine. Had mine for 1 year and have driven 25k miles. My tires also stick out about 2 inches past the fender. Maybe that helps

New photos. My buddy has 53,000 miles on his white GMC 2500 HD, and he has basically no chips. What gives?

Even the plastic bumper molding is beat up, I would say whatever surface you are driving on is rough on paint.

You probably should have installed mudflaps.

Truck never left the dealer without mudflaps just because I despise this crap. You can see one of them in the photos.
