Check Engine Light

So I just bought a 2007 Sierra Z71 1500 4x4 & after about 3 days the check engine light just came on. I haven't noticed any changes in how it drives other than the remote start not working. Any tips on what I should check first?

According to the book that came with my OBD scanner, there's only about 900 possible things it could be. There's no way to tell you where to start other than getting the codes read. Auto zone, advanced auto, oriellys, etc will all read the codes for you at no cost. They will give you a code that the scanner reads (should be Pxxxx). Then you can google your model truck and the code and read all you want on it. Could be as simple as tightening your gas cap or something as major as engine issues.

Dang it bad bad news. I glanced at my crystal ball and it appears to show a transmission code. (Haha just kidding around) get the codes read immediately and post the results.

Now hopefully this is not the truck that you unknowingly bought?

 

 

NOTE: If it has ANY check engine light the remote start will NOT work.
