Retrax is cool looking, and very functional, but leaks like a you-know-what. If you absolutely must have dry storage, the retrax will not work.

Im using a Access Vanish Low profile roll up cover on my 2500. Its rolls up easy if needed and was a breeze to install. It has keep my gear dry underneath. And if I need to put my atv in the bed I rolls it up and it has built in latches to hold it in place. It wasnt cheap to buy (320.00) but im happy with it . There are so many styles and brands out there I would for what ever your needs are online and finds pics to help you decide.

I installed a Peragon cover on my 2500 HD and like it very much. While it isn't 100% waterproof it keeps most rain out. (I think if I added some additional weather stripping I could make it waterproof but haven't done so yet.)

The installation isn't what I would call "simple" but if you follow the instructions and watch the videos it isn't too hard to get it installed.

I really like the solid surface and the fact that I can remove the panels if I need a completely clear bed.

Also, the support by Peragon is great. I made an error when I ordered the cover (selected the stainless steel hardware instead of the double lock). When I called to correct this error, they added the double lock and left the stainless steel hardware on the order for no extra charge.

Good luck with whichever cover you choose.

I have had 3 different covers over the years.

Diamondback: great cover, sturdy. Very minor leaks in the corners.

BakFlip F1: Loved the options it gave but a horrible cover. I could deal with the minor leaks in the corners but the cover (actually 2 since the first was replaced under warranty) the panels filled with and held water. This made the cover very heavy and leaked in the center seams. I would not buy again.

Undercover Ridgelander: This is my current cover, new design this year. So far great cover. Very sturdy, comes off easy (other than it is a 2 person job) Very happy with this and the options it gives.

Had a Peragon color matched on my 2016 the thing was awesome looking and it is very unique in the way that it works. It did leak a good bit and the install does require some basic tools and some mechanical ability skills..

I went with a Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite this time. Construction is heavy/sturdy materials with good solid locking latches front and back. Very easy Install if that is a big issue for folks? My main reason for going with this G4 cover was to have access to the front of the bed without having to fold the cover all the way to the front. The G4 has an independent front leaf that folds back and with these TriMode steps it is extra easy to reach into that area. I mounted a BakBox toolbox underneath that front panel (FAC toolbox was too expensive IMO). I like the fact that I can open the front panel and reach down past the BakBox and get stuff out of the bed easily. I had to hit the brakes HARD today when a a car turned right in front of me and ALL my Costco goodies slid forward so made good use of that feature haha.

Awesome color matched Peragon Pic.

My 1st hard cover was a Fold A Cover. I didn't have an issue during the winter as I removed it to haul my snowmobile. My brother found that the lock would freeze up. That's what I like about the BakFlip covers, that no lock is used.

I had a Fold-A-Cover on my previous truck that I purchased in 2006. It seemed like the best option available at the time. It served me well for 11 years, except both lock covers broke off and all of the seals split so it was far from water proof anymore (not complaining, that's bound to happen with age). For how I use my truck, I didn't need some of the features of the FAC on my new truck so I went looking for a different cover. In 11 years I used the front opening panel only a few times. Also, like revrnd's brother, the locks froze up on me in the winter. Between that, having to use a different key to lock/unlock it, and the finger grabs breaking off on the rear, I never used the separate opening feature of it either. I always opened the tailgate and just grabbed the bar inside to open the cover.

I finally decided on the BakFlip MX4. So far I've been happy with it. It fits my usage a little better than the FAC since I always opened the tailgate to open my cover anyways.

The MX4 has the tailgate seal that allows you to close either the tailgate or the cover first.

There are no external locks to freeze up or lose the covers to. Plus with the locking tailgate on the new trucks, it is just as secure as the FAC was.

It can still stack up right behind the cab and travel in that position like the FAC and it works with a fifth wheel, or I can tip it up against the cab and use all but a few inches of the bed (I really like this advantage over the FAC, but it basically comes down to preference of this or the front separately opening panel)

And the last advantage for me personally was that it sits in between the bed sides rather than on top of them. For me, this little bit made a big difference with clearance for our fifth wheel since it's a little older model and doesn't sit as high as the new ones, I needed all the clearance I could get (and definitely used every last 1/16" of it on our last camping trip. Small side note on this too is that it leaves the hand grab hole at the back open, I never did figure out if the FAC blocked that or not.

My brother in law liked my MX4 so much he got one for his new truck too.

Not having to worry about banging the tailgate against the 'catch' of my old BakFlip is nice. The locking Tailgate on my '11 was a dealer install, since the truck didn't have it and I knew the cover had no lock.

Brother got the MX4 for his '16 last fall.

No locks to freeze but my BakFlip seal along the tailgate would freeze shut all the time
