Thoughts on Clear Bra Install

Recommended Posts

Hello All - Wondering what anyone thinks about having the clear bra or similar protectant installed on the front of the truck. Have a black 17 Denali.

The quote I received for the lower and upper bumper (Just under the headlights) out the door cost - 467.00

For those that have had something similar installed - what was your cost, and has it been worth doing?

Those that chose not to do install - cost related reasons or just didn't see the need?

Thanks

Frank

I paid 650 for Xpel Ultimate on bumper, mirror caps, grille, and 18 inches back on hood and fenders. I was getting rock chips. Had it on over a year now and haven't gotten any rock chips since. I'm glad I did it and would recommend for any painted front end.

Thanks for the reply. To do exactly what you have - it would have been 740.00 so I think you got a very good deal. I may get the additional coverage later on.

I paid just 250 for my front bumper on my black lifted 2500. I decided not to do the hood since I'm lifted

As mentioned in a different post, I had my new z71 midnight edition

XPEL 'd a few weeks ago. It's a must with a color front end. Complete front, 18" up the hood, back of mirrors. I paid around $750 (xpel ultimate)

Had the truck done a couple of months ago w/ the 3M Stoneguard

12" hood & fender kit $249

"step ins" 2 - reg' cab $50

Total w/ tax - $338

(CDN $)

Previously I had my 2000 GMC done. I had the truck for 4 years & no chips. For some reason I never bothered to have it on my previous 2 trucks. Seeing the chips in the front of the hood on my '11 convinced me to get it on this truck.

The leading edge of the hood on my '04 started to blister, but I think that was more from moisture/salt getting into the 'hem'.

buddy of mine here in the niagara falls canada area owns a shop that does custom vinyl work and hes doing 3m on the front of the hood and roof for me for 240 bucks this weekend. after the giant rust scab on the roof of my 09 after a stone chip hit it, just at the edge of the windshield, its cheap insurance

Got the front of the truck done for 900 in Ottawa Canada.

Got the whole thing done. Bumper lower and upper. Headlights. Front part of the hood. Front part of the front fenders.

It was very worth it. Got hit in a parking lot and it looked bad but there was basically nothing wrong with the paint under it. Just a small little dent that you wouldn't know was there unless I pointed it out. Cost 300 to replace that one piece since it's the whole front bumper but not having to paint anything was worth it.

Ditto on mine and about the same price. No bubbles though and over red unless you hit the light perfect you can't tell it's there. Love this stuff. Oh, also got the door edges done. Should have done the whole truck. Cheaper than paint. Looks great. Self healing and larger stuff can be repaired, if needed, with a hair dryer or heat gun.

I had the dealer do the 3M film, negotiated down to $750 for full hood, front bumper, grills, mirror, fenders. Love it so far, hated the Rock chips on my '14 HC and don't like any bug deflectors for the new Duramax hood

I've had mine on since 2010 and would do it again in a heartbeat. Seems like the factory paint chips from just looking at it but with the clear vinyl it has held up really well.

    • These show the problem and symptoms, and I explain things too. to clarify again, I did not change over any computers or wiring (with the exception of the map sensor). All of the computers and wiring are original to the 2010 vehicle   video 1 - background info/explanation and part of the problem   video 2, idle misfire   I think the reason that the MAP sensor is reading High is because the engine is misfiring so there is less vacuum...   Additionally there's a p0102 for the MAF low frequency, and a p0108 for the map high voltage.        Again, apologies for the somewhat long-winded explanation, it's a rather difficult problem to explain without going into the details.
    • You'd want the Pulsar to be safe.  That was the first product that worked for 10 speed trucks that they came out with.   Range Technology 22451 Pulsar LT for 2019-2022 GM Gas Trucks     That said, in the features description of the RA003B, it does list it working with 10 speeds.  However there are reports that the RA003B can cause some drivability issues on early 10 speeds.  So the Pulsar is the safest move IMO.      Range Technology RA003B AFM/DFM Disabler   Features: Range AFM/DFM Disabler keeps you in full power 100% of the time Simply plug into your onboard OBD-II port and it instantly begins working to eliminate the AFM system Disables Auto Start/Stop Blue LEDs The Range AFM/DFM Disabler does not reprogram factory ECU Works in hundreds of applications, 2007-2022, including 10-speed models. Leaves no trace, unplug it to return to factory settings Virtually no battery draw Fits all V6 and V8 General Motors (GM) active or dynamic fuel management vehicles, includes cars, trucks, and SUVs This device does not support the 2022.5+ Refresh model trucks or 2021+ SUVs To confirm your 2022 model truck is compatible with this unit, check your VIN. • I have a 2019 new body style high country with a 6.2l L87 and a 10 speed transmission code MQB. Looking for a disabler that is compatible. Most show it’s not. I watched a video on utube from Dons Life that says Ranges RA003B is compatible but when you go to Ranges website and check compatibility it only has a 8L90 trans listed which is an 8 speed.  I don’t want to buy the wrong one. Anyone have any experience with this situation?
    • This actually happened. Be careful where you get your information re: gas price trends.
    • I understand the principle...you don't want to spend $150 for a $0.02 piece of plastic or a little screw and perch thingy.   But this is a problem that looks like it can be reliably solved with a zip tie.   That might hold you over until you can score one at a pick-a-parts yard.
