Swapping cap less fuel

The capless fuel actually has 2 seals you open when you put the nozzle in for gas.

And looking under my truck at the fuel neck, it looks like you can just remove that part where the seals are and just replace that part which doesn't look hard as you got plenty of room to do it under the fender. Price-wise.. sure it's a little more than a gas cap

And as stated on previous post, you can buy a cap to go over it if you want, or be lucky and have a friend with spare time hook you up from his CNC machine..

Both seals are in the filler neck though, don't think there's any kind of seal around the gas door itself. So if you even go on dirt roads dirt or whatever else can get past the door and collect over where the nozzle goes in. As I said, of course you can do your best to clean it out, but you won't vet 100% of it. Of course there's a fuel filter, but why add to the dirt to be filtered. Also if you try to clean it out that takes way more time than if you had to take a cap off. Plus from the first pic, what happens if you go to a station where the nozzle will shut off immediately so you have to do the thing where you only put the nozzle in halfway. With those 2 seals that means you either have to spend way more time trying to fill it, try to go to another pump or go to another station. So really is this saving time or convenience?

If someone likes that feature then cool. I just know that the more features you add to make things more convenient or supposedly save time it will just add problems if you plan on keeping a vehicle for the long term. The capless system to me is like having a push button start, does nothing but give you something to show people about all of the features. I read someone on here or Facebook where someone with a vehicle that had that feature where it just senses you nearby and unlocks the door and just has the push start so you don't need the key. Well they said that they were the passenger and got dropped off, the person driving took off without the keyfob. Something that happened to me personally was when I was in a parking garage. A brand new Cadi started to slowly back out of the spot and I blew the horn since I had to back up to stop the care from hitting me and I thought someone was in the car. Well nobody was in the car and luckily the car didn't back into anything. The car was running and in gear. I was going to be a good guy and put it back into it's spot instead of just stealing the spot. Well it wouldn't even let me move the car since the keyfob was nowhere near the car since it had that push button start. So all I could do it put it in Park and shut it off and lock it up for the person. Luckily it also stopped in a spot where it was out of the way of traffic trying to find a spot or leaving the parking structure. So again, features that supposedly saves time or is more convenient can bite you in the ass sooner or later rather it's to repair it when something goes bad or something happening.

Again, just my take on it and my opinion. If you like that kind of stuff then cool no problem.

Yup, before I got the cap made, only time I saw anything sitting on those seal was when I washed my truck and I directly sprayed with a pressure washer around the gas door, had some water sitting on the seal. Other than that(before I used the cap), I didn't see anything really in there, but I'm sure if you do drive on dirt roads, you will get some stuff sitting in there(you're right about no seal around the door, just rubber bumpers). Blow it out or carry an air can to blow it out.. LOL.

Right now, it's been fine filling up and haven't had any issues so far with the nozzle stopping and having to play with it to pump. I've heard other brands/makes have had this capless fuel for a while and they seem to have kept the design. First auto I had with this design, so time will tell if it holds up.

In my state, there are relatively few gas stations with the ratchet retainer on the gas pump handle. I use my gas cap to prop it open, The auto shut off still works, and typically it ejects the cap separating from the handle.

And it's tethered. No issue with losing it.

This isn't a comment about capless, just my $.02 about what my fuel door cap means to me!
