JL Audio Console Sub / Replace Speakers

I went with the Rodney's Boxes setup off ebay. 8" square Kicker Solobaric. It has more surface area than a 10" round sub and I am really happy with the performance. I had a 15" Dynaudio in my old NNBS Silverado console than hit deeper but wasn't nearly as tight

Did you do the install yourself? How long does it take to get the console out, new box/sub in, and console back in?

Has anyone seen or tried this? Trying to replace speakers in my 2015 Z71 Double Cab without eating up the under seat storage, not that there is a lot under there anyway. Since it sounds like just replacing speakers won't help and an Amp and Sub will be needed. I don't need crazy bass. I just want to listen to clean music. This JL Audio StealthBox is an option, albeit a little expensive for my taste. I'd have to do some additional wiring as my truck doesn't is a non-Bose thus no sub.

Any other thoughts? Their are compact subs, but still not a lot of room in the vehicle to hide it all and it sounds like a speaker only replace won't do it.

I installed the Kicker VSS sound stage with the 2 amps and sub. It was expensive but the convenience of having a plug and play setup was worth it. I also changed all door speakers. Def a huge diff over stock.

I didn’t take any during the install but there is a video of the process. It’s def pricy but I have heard of people getting it a lot cheaper. But the install and all the wiring being plug and play the sub mounts under the small jump seat in the back. The interior amp is 50x4 so after you swap the speakers it sounds a lot better.

It wasn't hard at all. Maybe 2-3 hours with breaks. Did it myself using the JL audio instructions and notes from members here. Most difficult part (not that difficult) was running power from battery thru the firewall. I used a fish tape to push the power lead thru the driver side grommet. Tapped into the rear speaker leads off the headunit, ground wire off the console bracket, and mounted the sub and amp under the console.

What amp did you go with that you were able to mount it under the console? Ever had any heat issues.

From Rodney: Soundstream ST1700d is great option. We can do it for same price. Nice thing is it comes with remote bass knob. I personally have a 2016 crewcab with that exact setup and love it.

 

no issues with heat and I’m Houston. It’s a sweet setup
