Folks with 33's

Hell all. I am about to pull the trigger on 33" tires. I have concerns though about losing power and towing capacity. This 5.3 Sierra already has a hard time getting out of its own way. I have a (roughly) 3500lb travel trailer that I haul a handful of times over the summer. I have 3.42 gears and it pulls ok now but I am worried that dropping that ratio with 33" tires will kill it. Am I worrying too much? Does anyone else have this set up and can advise?

No issues. I have 34x11.5 on my truck (pretty much the same truck). I tow a 7500lb wet trailer. No remarkable issues. It's not passing sports cars uphill... but it's not being passed by 18 wheelers either.

stock tires and wheels are about 80-90lbs a piece. i just got some 285/70/17 toyos that weigh 58lbs and the rims are 27. no loss at all and still getting same milage.

i used to have 34/12s and i lost milage and power but my 5.3 still towed beautiful 3500lbs is not that heavy u shouldent worry at all.

I lost a little acceleration but it was minimal

Increased diameter will work against you in acceleration and fuel economy. Also, wider and more aggressive tread is a negative for economy. I'm running 33x12.50x18 at/mud tires and my mileage is about 12.5 city/15 hwy with my 5.3L. That's my driving habits, on my routes. As they say: your mileage may vary.

My advice: don't go with more aggressive tread than you need.

Spot on, it's just based on tire size/aggressive or not and how you drive - I'm at a 285/70/17 (E-rated) and I'm running 16 city/20 hwy. I do have a 3.08/8-spd and E-assist though.
