Does this make sense?

Hello all, first post.

I just purchased a 2017 Sierra 1500 SLT Z71.

I was looking to lift the truck and add some larger tires. I started to buy the ReadyLift 4" lift but saw this disclaimer.

Note: Not for use for off roading purposes

It stopped me in my tracks and I inquired about it. Here is the response I got back. What's the point of a suspension lift if you can't use it?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting ReadyLIFT suspension. All our kits are designed and engineered for street use to enhance cosmetics and provide clearance for larger wheels and tires. We do not recommend moderate to heavy off road use with any of our kits. Easy off highway driving, smooth dirt roads, etc would be acceptable. The kits are not designed for off road abuse. Thank you and have a great week.

It would seem to me that either they do not make their equipment strong enough to handle the abuse or they are just covering their butts in case of law suits. Most people use these kits to turn their trucks into "Mall Crawlers", not go out and abuse them plus a big lift is not very safe for off road because the cent of gravity is way to high and the truck could easily turn over. If you into offroad then put a simple 2 inch level, 33 inch mud tires, and replace the plastic skid plate with the aluminum one and you can go just about anywhere.

Open and shut case. half the mods people do to their trucks are purely cosmetic. this is just one of them.

The ground clearance is an issue at my farm. I would like to run 33" tires on the truck and a simple control arm lift at 4" should work. I have read much on different 3.5" to 4" lifts using control arms and have differing tire size from multiple people. I do not want do do any trimming on the wheel well but am wanting to run 33's for better off road performance.

According to ReadyLift then all their lifts are for strictly cosmetic purposes.

You should be able to squeeze 33's in with a 2 inch level but if not then a set of 32.5 inch tires will work (265/70-18, 285/65-18, etc.) If that don't work for you then I suggest looking into trading for a 2500 or a Tundra if you need ground clearance that bad. GM did not make the 2014 trucks very off road friendly, it is what it is.

Ya you'll be able to put 33s on it with just a leveling kit on the front. Also, now a days there's way more people that have a lifted truck just for looks and don't intend on actually going off-road other than maybe a dirt or gravel road. The cheaper lifts I wouldn't even consider. If you want to put a lift on and use it then get a good lift like a BDS. Putting a little more money into the kit will save money down the road and cause less problems. It also helps that a better kit is built better to handle abuse.

If you want a slight lift go with the bds 4"/zone 4.5" kit which is the same kit essentially. Unless you're gonna be doing some baja style offloading and jumping you'll be fine with whatever you'll be doing on your farm.

All depends what you need I guess. I have a 2.5" Motofab level and Mastercraft Courser MXT's in 285/70/17 (32.7" I believe). I don't have any rubbing, about an inch clearance everywhere. I spend the hunting season off road (nothing crazy) and have never had a problem. Decent clearance and plenty of grip.

Thank you all for the responses. Honestly, I was looking for a decent priced relatively small lift to accommodate 33" tires. I was just shocked at the response from ReadyLift. My farm isn't just a typical farm. It's not an easy place and clearance is an issue. Many stock trucks have been stuck and high centered there. I suppose I will have to spend more money and do the drop down bracket lift. Looks like I'll have to get new wheels as well. LOL what a waste to spend the extra money for the Z71 package and the nice 20" wheels. If I had it to do all over again......I'd have kept my previous truck. Ugh!

The money you spend on that could be used to get an old beater truck, jeep, etc. Plenty of the 800 series out there that have plenty of ground clearance and you can pick up one of those in good shape for $5k or so. I drive off road for a living and go some pretty nasty places in my stock F150 work truck with 32 inch wrangler kevlar AT's. If your farm is so bad that a leveled half ton with 33 inch mud tires can't get you where you need to go you should be looking at a side by side 4 wheeler, not a truck to get you there.

I was going to say he needs a skid loader and a load of gravel to fix the low spots in the lane.

Ok curiosity has gotten the best of me here. Stock tires are a touch under 32", let's say you slap some 33's on it. I can not think of any instance where that extra 1/2" is going to get your truck anywhere it couldn't have gotten on a stock size rubber.

Throw on a 2.5" level and some 275/65's and now you have an extra 1" clearance with the tire and 2" or so from the level.
