Engine compartment lights

Maybe someone can help me. I have installed some LED lighting in the engine compartment of my 2014 Silverado 1500 LTZ. I wired a temporary toggle switch but want to install a switch that will allow the lights to Automatically come on when I open the hood.

I noticed that when the hood is open, there is a visual indication on the DIC screen of the hood open. This tells me there must be a switch some where under the hood. I would like to tap into the switch to active the lights.

Does anyone know where this switch is located? Thanks for any help you can provide.

The switch will just be an input level signal for the computer(s).

You'll likely be better off adding your own switch.

I'd use your own switch. I use roller switches found on Amazon for all my LED lights inside doors or cabinets. There's a few out there that have a IP67 rating that are water and dust resistant.

I use the adhesive epoxy sealed reed switches like what you would have for a home alarm system to drive a relay. No open moving parts to corrode like the pin switches used to.

there should be a wire attached to your hood latch... I haven't dug around in there yet... but you could likely tap into that... thus turning on the LEDs when the hook latch is triggered
