I do not have SXM signal in my 17 GM 1500, there is a hardware failure between the head unit and SXM.  Had it in today and the entire unit was replaced.  Updated the ID # with SXM and still nothing.  I did check the shark fin, water came out from beneath it when I put pressure on the fin.  I'm not sure if that impacted anything.  Funny that I had no issues with my previous GM truck and this one is a year old and kaput.  SXM resent my info several times, nothing.  Error is no signal and something about signal blocked.  I only see channels 0 and 1 and no preview.

Agriont:  I have the same "Reception Blocked" problem.  I had a trial on my 17 Suburban.  I renewed my subscription for 4 months last week and it played one day.  After that I refreshed the signal, moved the car, the reception is blocked.  Sirius says go to the dealer.  Frustrated.  Well I am only out $25

The radio head unit was replaced under warranty.  Didn't resolve the problem.  Next step was to replace the antenna unit, which includes the fin.  Seems GM has those pre-painted in stock based on your VIN.  The antenna was the problem for my vehicle.  I note though that the break in the seal is at the front of the fin vice the rear with the old and faulty unit.  SXM wanted to charge me to transfer to the new SXM ID #, told them to pound sand.  Everything works fine now but the antenna is not as good as an aftermarket, portable kit magnet type.  I don't think that there are any bulletins or recalls but the radio is part of the vehicle.  Go to the dealer and have them fix the problem because it is the equipment that is the problem

It's GM's problem but they are trying to blame the signal with me as well. I can switch to an aftermarket antenna and it works perfectly. I've also had a 2008 Avalanche, a 2015 Acadia and a 2017 Acadia that have no issue. Only my 2017 Sierra Denali cuts out.

You certainly confirmed what a lot of us suspected...crappy antenna signal. Where is your aftermarket antenna mounted? Thanks for the video and welcome to the site!

I ran it through the dash and it's right behind the normal antenna on the Passenger Side Fender. It's just the old antenna that I got in 2005 with my very first Sirius Kit my wife bought for my truck.

 

I made another video that I haven't uploaded to youtube of me driving through an area where it is cutting out constantly and then I switch antennas to the aftermarket and it works perfectly. Basically, the same as above just a lot more driving.

 

Initially, the dealership tried to argue it wasn't GM's problem and that it was just bad reception in town. They attempted to convince me by telling me they took trucks like mine out and got the same result. I told them that the only confirmed my suspicion that this is a much bigger issue affecting a lot of trucks. Once I showed them this video and reminded them that I've had 4 factory Sirius XM equipped GM vehicles and this in the only one that did it they were more helpful. IMO my dealer did what they could and replaced the original antenna.

 

I have since gone directly to GMC but so far, I'm getting nothing but "Customer Service" talk. Lot's of apologies and no action. They want me to take it back to the dealer and tell them to fix it. I've nicely and NOT so nicely explained to them the dealer has already done what they can. I think they really just don't want to admit it is on their end because then they are going to have a very wide spread issue. I have also requested to speak directly to engineering. I am also an engineer and would love for someone at GM to tell me why I am wrong in face of all the evidence I've presented.

I feel sorry for SiriusXM...I know a lot of us just said screw it, never went past my 3 month trial with the crappy reception.

It was a good idea at the time. With Pandora, I-heart radio, and even I pods there's just no reason for it. Who wants to listen to music you don't want to get to music you do in this right now world. And the sound isn't as good. Their billing procedure don't get me started, just like dealing with direct tv.

That's a good point. Had not thought of it from SiriusXM's perspective but that might be because I've had Sirius/SiriusXM for so long I knew how it should work and never considered it was anything but an issue with the truck.

 

One thing I am considering trying is going to test drive an F-150 and driving it around town to see if it's better or not. If so then my next video can be of my GMC vs a Ford Satellite Radio Reception comparison.

Never had a problem on my 2008 Avalanche, I barely lost it inside the Mobile tunnel. This truck is atrocious. XM ought to get on GM to get their stuff together! XM is losing a ton of money from people like me not renewing with them, it’s a complete waste of money with the system/antenna I have.

Ahh but there are other happily satisfied customers of other auto makers subscribing to XM all the time, so no big deal to them.

I enjoy having the XM Radio but that’s all. I think, not totally sure, I pay approximately $140 per year for two cars and it comes with weather mapping as well but never use. IMO, 140 is pretty good for two cars. I also have Apple (unlimited) radio but my wife really enjoys listening to the news while driving. I’m just trying to keep up with all the new music my kids are listening too. Btw, the other day I asked my kids what they were listening too and the reply was “Marshmallow”, who and what the heck is Marshmallow?? Lol, man times are definitely different......

 

And so many just don’t get it and forget about the mental diseases plaguing our country lol

I enjoyed it and didn’t mind paying for it but this truck just doesn’t receive it well at all. It’s all I listened to in the Avy

I just got this message from GMC after I ranted on the phone at this poor Christian guy this morning.

I am very much not done with this yet. I feel like I'm orbiting the earth with a Flat Earther, showing them the curvature of the Earth and they are just going "Nope, Nope, I don't see it."
